"A Big Hand For The Little Lady"... Best Poker Movie...Ever

I’ve seen “The Cincinnati Kid” and “Rounders” and <shudder> that Mel Gibson travesty, “Maverick.” For my money, the best movie about poker is “A Big Hand For The Little Lady.”

I found it playing again this morning while surfing through the channels, and watched it again. The script is terrific, the story is engaging from the beginning and the all-star cast is outstanding.

My favorite part?

Burgess Meredith’s blissfulness as he’s being sung to by the saloon singer (“Rosie, You Are My Posie”) after they’ve divided up the loot, while Joanne Woodward marches willfully into another poker game (“We play big poker here in Bear Creek.”)

Yeah, great classic movie.
