A big 'ol "Fuck YOU!" to the PETA jackass at the circus

Count me as a vote against cruelty to animals to train them for entertainment.

Mistreatment of animals in general.

Circus elephant on a rampage in Hawaii.

I suppose Barnum & Bailey should simply release all of their animals in some countryside? I suppose all zoos should follow suit and simply leave the cage doors open some evening after closing time. Failing those options, what should be done with all the animals people shed so many tears about? Let’s see each and ever PETA member adopt an elephant or a lion or a tiger or whatever animal best suits his/her personalities; let them take the animals home and rehabilitate them, meanwhile footing all the vet bills, food requirements etc., etc. Suppose PETA successfully closed down all circuses, zoos, and any other place where animals are kept for display or educational purposes. What do all the animal lovers think would happen to the animals if the owners could no longer support them? Would they release them into the wild or simply euthanize them? Fuck PETA and all their ilk----they offer no solutions, just idiotic bullshit.

The statement above speaks for itself. If you admit you don’t know anything about the cite, and found it on a random google, how the fuck can you tell if it’s reliable or not?
Here’s a better one

LouisB-wildlife refugees? Zoos? (Zoo animals, from everything I’ve read, are very well treated)

Circuses are business and I would guess most of them are incorporated. Since the primary purpose of corporations is to make profits for the investors, maybe PETA should make a straight forward offer of cash for all the animals it is so concerned about. If the corporation decides selling the animals is a good idea, they can pass the ownership of them to PETA in exchange for the cash. After that, PETA can do as they please with the animals, provided they provide all the necessary funding. I don’t want any of my tax money going to PETA.

I don’t know everything PETA stands for or support them completely. I think they’re right about this issue, however.

How about “Stop capturing more animals and perpetuating this”? Phase this out. Leave the animals, in Asia, Africa, or (in the case of other exotics) wherever you found them.

And I hardly think the circus is some safe haven for animals. Zoos, maybe…but not circuses.

Recently, the city of Los Angeles’ closed an elephant act with Circus Vazquez due to numerous instances of abuse and neglect (April 2008) [60], and, according to PETA, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has lost 25 elephants since 1992.[61]

Yeah, a certain number of them would die in the wild…but elephants are supposed to live about 70 years and some are dying way too young. Even in zoos it isn’t that hot:

1200 Elephants are kept in western zoos. A study shows that the lifespan of elephants in European zoos is about half as long as those living in protected areas in Africa and Asia.[57]

NSFW behind-the-scenes etc. (bad language in soundtrack, subtitled bad language)

Ratpigdogboy. Sounds like a superhero sidekick. I wonder what his superpowers are?

Allow me to join you in your hearty FUCK YOU to the asshole from PETA, Jettboy. And may I extend that FUCK YOU to all his fellow assholes in this thread who think it perfectly reasonable to target five-year old kids in public for polemicization and propagandizing. I presume they’d also be quite content for their kids to be buttonholed by anti-abortionists, or is it only when you agree with the cause that it’s OK?

I think your restraint was admirable, I don’t know if I could have stopped myself from giving this jerk a lesson in good manners.

Funny you should be lazy and just post three Google hits. I had done that after I asked for a cite and found those sites lacking in credibility. The HSUS goals are quite different from PETA and any honest reading would show that. If you check the advocacy record of HSUS you will see a vast difference. Hell just check the wiki entries on both if you are feeling lazy. They sum it up better than I can.

I might agree with the part of your post that I have bolded. I would like to ask what we would do about the exotic fish business, though? I’ve toured a couple of tropical fresh water fish farms here in Florida; they were basically a series of ponds with different fish in each pond. They were fed a couple of times a day but otherwise they spent their time doing what fish do until they were harvested, for lack of a better word, and sold. Most of these fish end up in home aquariums and most of them are treated decently; I.E., the water in their tanks is periodically changed, the fish are fed, and otherwise simply do what fish do. Are these fish mistreated? As a group, that is; I know some fish are neglected if not maltreated. Does PETA have a position on aquarium fish, be the aquariums public or private? How do aquarium fish differ significantly from caged mammals?

That’s aquarium sea kittens, please.

And you’re changing the subject.

For those that are talking about even zoos ending the capture of animals, did you mean just elephants that are still captured in large numbers for use in Asia or did you mean all animals?

If you mean all animals are you aware that with loss of habitat that Zoos are often the only way some animals have been kept going as a species and in a few cases have even been reintroduced to the wild only because of the zoo population?

Though I think B&B is pretty legit for a animal show, I ntl do not attend their shows as I really only want to support the human circus.

When I took the kids to the giant 3d dinosaur show there were fundies outside the arena handing out giant paper money to everybody, kids and adults. Thinking it was a coupon for inside we took the pamphlet which was really denouncing the show and evolution in general, very sneaky of them really.

I was mildly annoyed about it, and was looking forward to meeting up with them again after the show to discuss their literature. They were long gone not surprisingly.

We have a winner!

PETA is a cult of moronic, extremist terrorists who place their ideology above reality. When you find yourself in agreement with one of their positions, just remember that even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Not very smart on the PETA guys part.

Little kids would have difficulty understanding…and they learn by watching others. In this case, the father.

What the boy learns is that someone talks to him about Circus=Bad and Dad interposes himself and crumples up the pamphlet…follwed by a good time at the circus.

Kid is now getting innoculated against listening to PETA guys and the like in the future.

Best to hand the pamphlet out and let it go. They will still go in…but you plant a seed and they might never come back in the future. I know it worked that way for me.

I believe that PETA people are more hated than clowns and mimes. This makes a circus one of the scariest places on earth.

I personally am all for the phasing out of animal circuses in our culture, but I think PETA people are a bunch of nutjobs.

Might I suggest that the most successful way to get people to skip the circus is not to meet families at the door and tell them not to go in? You’ve got 5-year-olds on the cusp of all the music, colors and excitement - and LIONS and ELEPHANTS WHEEE! - and you think you’re going to convince ANYONE to turn around and go home? “Yes sweetie, I know we drove for an hour and bought the tickets and we promised you cotton candy but we decided at the last second that it’s evil thanks to that scruffy guy with the pamphlets. Let’s go home and do some coloring books instead. Won’t that be fun?”

I don’t have a problem with them posting flyers and handing out pamphlets on street corners or shopping areas when the circus is coming to town, to ask people not to consider going in the first place, but that would be reasonable, and this is PETA we’re talking about. They don’t seem to know how to get their message out WITHOUT being assholes.

He can smell anything, hear anything, see in the dark, swim up toilet pipes, and root like nobody’s business.

I can only assume that most PETA people and their supporters don’t have children. Man is the lowest form of animal, man.

“If it were a retarded baby and a bright dog, I’d save the dog.” …when asked which he would save, a dog or a baby, if a boat capsized in the ocean.
—Tom Regan, PETA member/writer, at a Q&A session following a speech, University of Wisconsin at Madison, October 27, 1989.

Me too. PETA pisses me off, I can’t stand the assholes. But I could never condone attending a circus performance that had animals, and I would certainly never take a kid who might then grow up thinking that the circus is OK.

Oh come on now.
