Whacking day song. Substitute “spammers” for snakes in the lyrics.
Because spammers are weasels.
Hey, no problem. My family’s always said I was the whacky one.
I want to toss out that Colibri nailed more than half our spammers over the weekend. He’s too modest by far.
I just happened to be on while some others had to work or were otherwise engaged. samclem and engineer_comp_geek do a lot of the heavy lifting most of the time. (Each of them have more than five times the number of pelts that I do.)
De nada
BTW did you guys figure the source of the spammer?
As samclem indicates above, I believe they mostly are coming from Bangladesh.
Whoa, wasn’t there a thread about Weird Al having issues?
I’m getting spam calls on my phone from Bangladesh too. This fully justifies a nuclear strike.
Were we separated at birth or somethin? I think running coach is really an entity like Ultron or the Lawnmower Man; lives IN the program, so can get spam reports out quicker. Hey, you don’t think running coach generated all that spam just to repor…no, that’s too horrible to contemplate.
I wonder how annoying I was to the Mods for the junk I put in the Report Box? Instead of just saying “SPAM,” I was putting in phrases from the Monty Python sketch: “Have you got anything without SPAM?” etc…
Gentlemen, start your whacking!
Speaking only for myself, I was both amused and depressed that the level of spam had reached such a volume that people were looking for more creative ways to report it.
I actually stopped looking at the report text… and almost banned and deleted a thread that just needed to be moved! :smack:
Actually, the secret is to sit at your computer all day, hitting “New Posts” every few minutes.
And despite speculation, I do not have “reported” hot keyed. I do it old school.
I admit to getting a little trigger happy there for a while. I looked three times at any thread posted by someone who had a username that looked like a spammer’s.
Yeah. I was waiting for a phone call and spent some time on the main menu, hitting “refresh,” watching the new poster names. When I would spot a spammer, I would go shut him down.
(And, no, I am not going to mention how their username identified them.)
so - the “edited by” can safely be answered - I happened to catch a new post in the pit - compleetely plain text - reported it - on refresh, it was now edited and a live link.
no idea why they think they need to do the 2-step - but thats what the edit is for.
(of course, before my 60 second post time was up - I couldnt report that I had reported it).
I bet it was their beady little "i"s
Some sites don’t allow links in a new poster’s first 5 or 10 (or whatever) posts.
I’m guessing there’s a flaw/bug in the system that allows a link to be edited in.
That’s also why you sometimes see some contentless ( and strange English) posts. They’re getting their post count up to beat the limit.
Never mind. I mis-read.
Another issue with that on our site is we want to encourage people who come to use through Cecil’s columns to be able to embed the column link in their (possible) first post.
