A Big Thank-you to All Who Work Today

Thank you! I truly appreciate it :slightly_smiling_face:.

And we (and I’m sure a lot of others, even if they don’t all say so) truly appreciate you.

I won’t say welcome to the boards as you’re a long time lurker – but welcome to the posters! and hope you’re able to post more in the future.

Come on over to the MMP and introduce yourself, we always like meeting new folks!

Thank you @Loach. You are also very much appreciated. Is retirement on the way, cause it is, you are going to love it.

I just may do that…you all have made me feel so welcome tonight!

Great! Thank you for the invite :slightly_smiling_face:.

As I mentioned upthread, I had the good fortune not to work the 25th. But your sentiment here is one I find I’m enjoying a LOT whenever yet another bad deal comes my way. “This is the last [bad whatever] I’ll need to put up with.” is very satisfying.

A couple weeks ago I spent my first anniversary with my new wife about a thousand miles apart, and me not coming home until 5 days later. “One and only anniversary we’ll be apart” was a comforting thought. Not quite counting the days, but I’m certainly counting the months.

Thank you for posting this. Don’t be a stranger!

I’ve been in healthcare for nearly 40 years, so I’ve done my share. I am done with that at this point.

It can be a very sucky thing to have to haul your behind in to work when your loved ones are celebrating.

Outstanding OP, @Northern_Piper.

My target date is May 1st, 2023.

Oldest stepdaughter works as a CNA at a nursing home. In the last two months, she has had RSV, COVID, and most recently norovirus. Last month when they asked people about their holiday schedules, she volunteered to work Thanksgiving if she could get Christmas off. So naturally they gave her Thanksgiving off and scheduled her to work the overnight shift on Christmas eve and Christmas day. So Christmas eve was her first day back at work after her bout with the norovirus, and while overnight is generally quiet and slow, she wound up spending the night cleaning up after multiple residents with diarrhea. She was so wiped out she slept all day and couldn’t make it over to the house for Christmas dinner last night, and then had to go back to work in sleet and freezing rain to do it all again last night. So here’s a big thank you to her and all health care workers who have to work the holidays.

You are going to start living the best days of your life!

You certainly understand, then! I have worked many over the years, not sure why this one hit harder than usual. You guys sure did help with your kind words, though!

I am exactly one month ahead of you, @Loach.

Cheers!

Enough is enough?

Maybe? Possibly because I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas, and will be working New Years Eve and New Years day, as well. Or maybe I was feeling a bit neglected by my family this year, which I know was not intentional so I need to get over it lol.

2 different times I had a snow plow driver expertly maneuver the plow blade to maintain my efforts digging out. One of those times he waited as I moved my car.

My family has had a lot of nurses. Two cousins, one second cousin, my mother, my aunt. Every holiday someone always had to work, and we would deliver a good meal to thems. I used to work in a hospital, as a kitchen baker, it was early shift so I could work and still get to the family dinners.

I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years (hello from work) this year. As I mentioned it should be my last time. But my girlfriend is changing careers and becoming a nurse so we will be switching.’
