While we were opening presents this morning, we heard the sound of the city snow ploughs clearing our streets.
Not that we’re planning on going out, but others may, and there’s always the need for roads to be clear for emergency services.
A big THANK YOU goes out to everyone who is working today, especially road and highway workers, hospitals, and transportation workers (like our own @LSLGuy - don’t know if he’s flying this weekend), keeping us all safe and moving at a very busy time of the year, after a bout of bad weather across North America.
As far as I know I’m not going to need to add to the labors of anyone working today by needing their services. But there are others who do genuinely need them; which is reason enough on its own to thank them, even without the knowledge that some year it might be me.
And I’m going to add the people caring for livestock; and the emergency vets; and child care and home care workers.
Hear, hear! We sometimes say a prayer in my church for those working while the rest of us sleep, enjoy time with our families and/or celebrate holidays.
100% agree! We were leaving a Christmas Eve party last night about 11:30, just as the furnace repairman was arriving. Amazing! Thank you to all who are working through this weather nightmare, too.
I did my share of holiday work, for well over 20 years. ER, urgent care, rounding on the inpatients. Some things must be done, and that holiday duty comes with the job description. But I’m glad I was able to give it up after 2 decades of it. My hat’s off to my colleagues who still do that.
Especially to them. There are hundreds of outages in Quebec, mostly quite small. But even a small outages requires a crew and often climbing poles in cold snowy weather. Three cheers for them.
Thank you for the thank yous! I am a long time reader that never pipes in, but I feel the need to this time . I have to admit, I’m sitting here at work, kinda feeling sorry for myself, and you all just cheered me up a bit. I work doing emergency services for people that are developmentally disabled and/or have mental illness. Some people have audio monitors in their homes that we listen to, others have alert buttons that we are on the other end of (“I’ve fallen and can’t get up” type of thing). It is a job that I love, but feeling blue today
having no family time. Anyway…thanks for cheering me up some .
My work week this week is Friday through Monday. I am way too old and have been doing it too long to work holidays but here I am. If all goes as planned this will be the last ever. No snow here but it’s been ridiculously cold.
Thanks for what you do,@istacyi. Many years ago I was a relief worker at a hospital (I worked weekends and holidays). Someone’s got to do it, because it’s important. You and your work matter, a lot.
