A blue jay committed suicide on my car today! ;_;

I had no part in it. He flew into my bumper and I heard a loud THUMP. I fooled myself into thinking “maybe he lived!” by not looking in my rearview mirror afterward. But yeah, um… he’s dead. :frowning: He was really pretty too. Why did my first automotive casualty have to be my favorite color? :frowning:

I don’t like to see animals die, but I must say the blue jay is my least favorite bird. They can be really obnoxious. At least the poor guy probably didn’t suffer.

Killed a bird with a sailboat once. Flew broadside into the bow section. The feathered bastard didn’t have a prayer. In his defense, I’m sure he’d never encountered a sailboat moving at 60mph before. Yeah, I was towing the boat to a new location.

Had a pigeon do the same thing to me; flew down from a highway overpass, landed in the middle of the lane, got eaten by my 76 Plymouth station wagon. :frowning: I cried.

Wasn’t nearly as bad as the time that a pickup truck in front of me nailed an adolescent deer on a residential street… (spoilering for sad details)

The truck hit him, knocking him down. Because I was in a low-riding car, I didn’t see what happened until I was pretty much on top of the poor thing, who was trying to get up. I swerved, but it wasn’t fast enough- I ran over his neck. I had to pull over for a good 20 minutes after that.

Aww poor thing. I think we sometimes take blue jays for granted because they’re so common. But they’re so brightly colored!

I hit a raccoon once. It was on a dark road. I was too upset to stop. Made it home sobbing and got my husband to drive us back to the scene to check if it died or not. It did.

When I was a kid, on a family road trip, my dad hit a bird of some kind. Splat, right on the front window. Feathers all spread amongst the windshield wipers. It went tumbling over the top of the car and fell off the back. I started to boo hoo and my dad said, “he’s just going to have a headache for a while”. It was hard not to laugh. I always felt bad about it though.
