My pic is still there, and my request to have it pulled was submitted. Arnold does his updates on some kind of schedule, and I haven’t been so freaked out by this that I’m screaming NOW!.
Well let’s take it slowly then, because your description of what’s happening is far enough off as to indicate that you truly don’t understand it.
First, I assume you understand that having your picture in the gallery means a person can have two browser windows open, side-by-side, one of them reading an SDMB thread and one of them looking at the photo gallery index. Now, imagine that as they scroll through the thread, they say to themselves, “oh, look, a post from Boyo Jim. Let’s see what he looks like.” And they move their mouse over to the other window, click your name, and your face pops up. They read your post, move on to the next post, and repeat the process for each post. You would not be alarmed or angry if anyone did this. You may wonder just how bored they are or be impressed at their capacity for tedium, but that’s about it.
The add-on that is being described simply does the exact same thing, only it automates it for you so if you want to see the pictures, you don’t have to perform the tedium. It doesn’t “disseminate” any pictures.
There, now you understand the internet.
Also, after receiving some concerned PMs and having a conversation with my lawyer (who specializes in internut law), I have decided to release the following statement: My post about having written the add-on for my own use was a joke. I didn’t really write it, and if I did, it has been deleted so there’s no way it could get shared with anyone.
No, I’m not wrong, and no, I don’t think you do grasp it. Anyone who is frightened by the idea of this addon should either (a) immediately request that their picture be removed from the gallery, remove any picture from their profile, and remove any links from their profile or any posts to any site that has pictures of them, or (b) stop freaking out about it.
Too bad. I thought it was hilarious.
Part of me is tempted to print off photos of everyone in this thread who’s complained but not yet requested that their photos be removed, just so I can look at them every time they post.
I believe you.
Several (I think all but I can’t be bothered to cross-reference the list) of the people that have complained have asked their photos to be removed, and I was going to get around to it this week, but now I see that people in here are going to stupidly mock them (with the mistaken assumption that they haven’t made the request to have their photo removed) until I actually remove the pictures, so I’ll try and do it tonight.
Yes. It is truly unfortunate when things that are hilarious turn out to be jokes.

now I see that people in here are going to stupidly mock them (with the mistaken assumption that they haven’t made the request to have their photo removed)
I’m not sure who you’re calling stupid, but my mockery is based on people saying that if the add-on is made, then people will request to have their pictures removed, not any assumptions about what people have actually requested of you.

(with the mistaken assumption that they haven’t made the request to have their photo removed) until I actually remove the pictures
1.) It was a joke.
2.) I was specifically referring to anybody who was *only *going to ask to have their picture removed if the addon went through–even in the joke, my point wasn’t that anyone who still had their picture up obviously wanted it to be used.
3.) I know you have a schedule for these things, but IMO it’s probably for the best all around if removal requests are *always *processed ASAP regardless of the reason. It’s one thing to have a queue going up, but for taking things down… if they want them down, they probably want them down right now.

I was wondering if anyone was going to call me on that.
I’m not sure who you’re calling stupid
Not you, of course! You have been nothing but a shining beacon of intellect and helpfulness in this thread.

Ha ha! I get it now! Hilarious!

You would be wrong. I don’t have a “schedule”. This is something I do in my spare time, when I have a free moment. It’s not like I wrote down in my calendar “next update will be on Tuesday at 8:00 GMT”. I do want to thank you for your concern on behalf of other people; let me check my latest e-mails and PMs, is there currently someone with an unhandled request that said “you need to take my picture down right now”? Hmm, no. Of course, with the people eagerly pointing and laughing at them in this thread, it might increase the sense of urgency, which is why I popped my head in to say I will do it tonight.

P.S. As far as I can tell, the number of people in that category is 0.

The way you phrased it, it sounded like there was some mad rush of people who’d all asked to have their photos taken down regardless of whether or not the addon was going forward, which you were going to do whenever you next got around to updating the site.

Possibly. Although if all of those people who were sooooooo worried when there was going to be an addon haven’t yet asked for their photos to be removed, I have to stand by my original assertion that they really *do *have *no *idea what this addon was going to do or how the internet works.

That is right. But no one put in 20 million exclamation points in their e-mail, or used 72-point bold red font, and so I thought I could take the week-end off. I hope you don’t mind.

What assertion was that already? I must have missed it.

‘Stupidly’ is not the right word, but I’m not allowed to say the right words in this forum.
Can I ask you all a favor?
Can we just drop this, please?
It was just an addon. It ain’t gonna happen. It’s done and gone.
Let’s let it go.
Sorry, Reply. I think you had a neat idea. Thanks for your efforts. I’ll stop trying to prolong the argument here.
Too bad this idea was shot down, it was a good one.
On the upside it did inspire me to do my own browser add-on, its a bit basic but it’ll work.
Dude, I’m in love with you.

I’m intrigued by the open lotion and tissues he has next to the pictures.
