a Bunny question

A lot of the bunnies in my yard have beat up ears. (I couldn’t find a bunny forum anywhere to ask this question.)

What do you suppose causes this? Could cats do that? Coyotes?

Here are a few pictures to give you a few examples.

Ever seen Watership Down? Rabbit fights.

I love Waterhip Down! I never gave rabbit fights a thought. This is a very likely cause. Thank you.

Body modification, clearly those are hipster bunnies.

You gotta survive a lot of shit to be a full-growed bunny!

Both literal and figurative.

Yep, bunny on bunny violence.

If you want, you should be able to ID them as individuals thanks to said injuries.

Thank you all very much!

These are tough bunnies.

What do they fight about?

I think it is marital issues.

So, I wonder if all of the ragged bunnies are boys.

Hormones do bad things to girl bunnies. They are either in heat or gestating. How mad would you be?

Ha, ha! Poor girl bunnies.

Rabbits do not go into heat. They are what are called “induced ovulators.”

In other words, if you are a Rabbit, you shouldn’t rely on the rhythm method for birth control.

I found out the hard way (sorry, RIP Doody) that males are territorial and when they fight they go for the testicles. I thought my two male rabbits were getting along great in their cage until one day I saw Doody had been castrated the hard way! SIGH We took him to vet, but he didn’t make it through the night because of shock.

That’s even worse.

It sounds like it is the boys who do the fighting.

The girls are busy with their own personal issues . . . alone.

Maybe damage from frostbite?

I had actually considered frostbite, because we had an extremely cold winter. But the two winters before this have not been so cold and one time, in the summer, the bunny had freshly bloody ears, so that would not be frostbite. I have been watching these chopped up ears for several years. We do have feral cats around here, and coyotes. A coyote would take the entire bunny, but I could see a full grown rabbit putting up a big fight with a cat.

They couldn’t get into the club?
