December is upon us, and I’m sure many of you have begun or maybe even finished your Christmas shopping. For me, there’s nothing better than finding the most appropriate gift for someone that I know they’re going to really love and appreciate. I’ll see something and it’s like a light shines down from heaven and a chorus of angels whispers “She is going to LOVE that!”
Not really, but you get what I mean.
What absolutely perfect gifts have you chosen for the giftees in your life? Whose face are you eagerly anticipating when they open your carefully chosen present? Of course, you probably shouldn’t post here if the recipient reads the Dope. Conversely, what gifts have you received over the years that have made you think “Man, he really does know me!”
Me, I’ve found a gorgeous pair of Fendi sunglasses for my best friend. She’s so incredibly hard to buy for since she pretty much has everything, but she loves fashion and I know she’s going to go nuts when she sees them. I had lots of different ideas in mind and I was wracking my brains trying to figure out which one wouldn’t seem kind of impersonal and “Oh, I didn’t know what to get you so I went for the obvious choice.” Then two days ago, I was idly browsing Bluefly when I saw these glasses and knew I had to get them. I want to see her face so badly when she opens the box!
As for perfect presents I’ve received, a few years ago when I was really into Alice in Chains, I got a DVD of all of their music videos plus some home movies and concert footage. It was from my dad and it wasn’t my most expensive or most elaborate present of the year, but it just signified to me that yes, my dad does pay attention to my interests. It really meant a lot to me to know that and I got a little teary-eyed when I opened it.
So Dopers, in the spirit of holiday giving and receiving, share your perfect presents!
Years ago, I gave my dad two CDs with every cover of “Ghost Riders in the Sky” I could find. It was his favorite song, and it took me a really long time to make it, but he loved it. Even the marimba version!
I almost started a thread just to brag about this one! My sister and her husband both teach history- she in high school and he in college. I got them this today:
I hinted around to my husband that I’d like a copy myself. I mean, 1851-2008. We’re talking the Civil War, the end of slavery, Lincoln’s assassination…
And my sibs and I are getting my 83-yr old mother a Wii. One of my sisters has one, and she loves it. She played tennis for the first time in 20 years.
