I honestly don’t get your point at all. It seems like, if you follow the analogy, you are glorifying the Confederacy. The U.S. is the Confederacy analog, right? And we want to fly our flag–one that does not in any way represent high carbon tax emissions–your analog for slavery.
I really don’t see how the conclusion is supposed to be that the war was really about slavery. In fact, I thought you were trying to argue the opposite.
Plus, I don’t think you can make the U.S. the bad guys and have it work. We’re always going to feel sympathetic. Hell, I would love it if we stopped using fossil fuels (assuming there is a workable solution.) But I’d be all “fuck Canada” in your story. Just like the South is all “fuck the North” even though they don’t support slavery.
I may not be the smartest person on this message board, but I’m still smarter than the average person who thinks the Civil War wasn’t about slavery. If I can’t see your point, I doubt they will.
