I’ll just let you know that the “God” you speak of does not exist.**
sigh And the Atheists wonder why some Theists treat with such contempt. With statements like these, it’s no wonder.
I concede the point, there is no empirical evidence for The Gods. But to make the statment; I’ll just let you know that the “God” you speak of does not exist in such a conclusive manner, is very insulting to the thousands, if not millions of people who have had the subjective experience of Deity in their lives.
While the experience is subjective, that doesn’t make it unreal. That’s like saying that because you, personally, have never experienced love, then the millions of other who have had that emotional experience are liars or deluded. Love can’t be empircally measured or proven, yet you wouldn’t deny its existence, would you? Making the bold statement I’ll just let you know that the “God” you speak of does not exist implicitly means that these people are liars or deluded. Is that what you’re trying to say?
This thread is talking about the message of Jesus of Nazareth and, I believe, its complexity or simplicity, not the possible existence of The Gods. Please don’t be insulting to those holding the discussion.
Don’t go throwing numbers at me because I find it every bit as insulting when someone tells me conclusively that I’m going to Hell because I don’t believe in a Christian god. How many are offended doesn’t enter into it.
That’s really what I’m trying to get across. I actually have great tolerence for all sorts of beliefs and rites and whatever, but I hate it when a follower of any faith tells me whats what just because he feels strongly about it.
Well, what’s good for the goose is good for the heathen, I always say.
Fine.
But I don’t want PoG to try to prove anything. I’m not strong enough for the whole “because the Bible says so” deal.
I was trying to point out that an absolute statement one way or the other is going to be reviled and refuted.
For someone to pop into an open (read: non religion based) forum and say, “Three cheers for Christianity, the one true religion,” it is every bit as obnoxious for someone to come in and saying, “Screw Chritianity and the Cross it dragged in here!”
But I don’t want PoG to try to prove anything. I’m not strong enough for the whole “because the Bible says so” deal.**
Which is fine. So far as I can tell, he didn’t raise the issue of Christianity being the One, True Religion (tho from the way he posted, I’m sure he believes that.) He was raising a question about intrepretations of the texts (as far as I can tell, the wordiness of the OP makes it hard to tell). Even his opening statement:
**Greetings to all that call on the name of Jesus… **
makes it clear he’s addressing his fellow Christians on a point of interpretation, not YOU MUST BELIEVE CHRISTIANITY OR ELSE!!!
Which is why I jumped in; you were hijacking the thread into something clearly different from what PoG was asking and in the process of doing so, being rude to those who have experienced Deity in their lifes. Please don’t paint all Theists with the same brush just because some can be rabid in their beliefs. Some Atheists can be just as rabid as the worst Fundamentalists.
Oh, I get it now. I can start a thread and it doesn’t matter how controversial it is, no one can disagree with me in it. Cool. I never read that rule before, thanks for clearing it up.
Now I can start that thread about how to properly kill a goat for a sacrifice and the PETA people can’t chew me out. Awesome!
If that’s what was done in this thread I would agree with those implications.
This is the equivalent of “Pro-lifers please respond” or “AI problems (spoilers)” as in, please, if you are a part of this group respond.
As you might notice, I am not christian. That didn’t prohibit me from commoneting on a thread whose topic was the apparently muddled teachings of Jesus. You don’t need to believe Jesus was the one true savior to comment on this, all you need to do is accept that there are a group of teachings (i) and that (ii) they are attributed to an entity named Jesus.
I have been offended by certain religious postings but this is hardly the case. I am not mad because, when watching a comedian on TV, he only says “hi” to the audience in the comedy club.
Please, man; do you have a reason why we seem to muddle Jesus’s teachings or are you gonna take this to the pit?
