Now that a court is looking at the voting, Gore should concede. Then no one can blame him for dragging it out.
This is NOT the same a giving the election to Bush. Gore conceding would have no legal effect. [see the topics on the dead man being elected Senator] The person with the second highest vote does not win. It would certainly make Gore look better.
Once the ballot mess is straightened out, someone will be declared winner of Florida. If it is Gore, he can just say “the people has spoken” and accept, and become President.
That’s politically shrewed (and brilliant), but how do you know that they won’t just simply stop looking into this after Gore concedes and give the election simply to Bush, despite everything?
I do not se why he should concede what is not his to concede but the voters.
I think he has done very well in just saying the constitution should be followed (taking the wind out of the sails of those who say he should be elected president because he got the popular vote).
I think they should settle it with a duel. Last man standing wins the presidency.
If not that, then just shut the hell up! Every time the Dems say anything, they just make themselves look more like whiny SOBs (saying they should get the 19,000 double-punched cards, and the one marked for Buchanon…last I checked, it was one vote per person, per ballot, and for the person marked thereon.)
Damn, I need to send that parenthetical rant to CNN’s “Talkback” show :D…anybody know the email addy?
