A cranky problem

Does anyone know how to remove the window crank handles on a 2000 Dodge truck? I want to install new speakers and since things are pretty undamaged I’d like to avoid brute force.

All else fails, you may wanna contact Crutchfield, 1-888-955-6000. They give away installation instructions when you buy your goods from them; if you’re a good talker, you might convince them to give away their secrets over the phone. Also, they used to sell a tool for under 10 bucks that could pop door handles off with little fuss.

Don’t know if this is true with the 2000 trucks but my 93 car has a clip that keeps the door handle on.

It took me awhile to figure this out. You can buy a $5 tool that will pull them out from most automotive stores.

Another option is to go to a auto supply house and see if they have a repair manual for your vehicle. If not look at an older model and see how they have the cranks attached. Probably not a big design change in one or two years.

“It’s like banging your head against a wall because it feels so good when you stop.”

Bingo, the Crutchfield web site had the instructions for the clip style window cranks and I bet that’s it. It wasn’t a screw under the plastic cover like my previous cars and I thought a crowbar might be inappropriate.

OTOH Crutchfield listed the wrong size speakers for the doors. I’m glad I didn’t mail order from them.
