A day in Nashville!

Never been before and meeting one of my adult boys (who is newly living in Huntsville Alabama) there for a weekend (Friday night to Sunday am to be precise). Travelling with my dog.

With one full day there what is, in your humble opinions, any must see and dos? What can be done with dog in tow?

Thanks for the advice!

It’s been awhile since I’ve been there, but as I recall, there’s an historical walking tour in the downtown area with the path marked out on the sidewalks.

Well, there’s the Andrew Jackson home not far outside of town. Not sure about the dog.

Don’t look for Civil War Battlefields, there is one Ugly Statue and that’s about it.

And…I got nothin’

Go see the Lane Motor Museum. More oddball stuff there than you can shake a stick at, including a bunch of Tatras and Citroens, a herd of microcars, a replica Dymaxion, a bunch of cold war military vehicles, and a perfectly enormous Vietnam-era LARC-60 landing craft.

There are the normal touristy things that shouldn’t be hard to find. Opryland, Country Music Hall of Fame, Cheekwood, Arlington Vineyards, The Hermitage (the Andrew Jackson home previously mentioned), etc. I think all of these wouldn’t allow dogs.
Any special interests?
With a dog, all I can think of is:
The Greenway (a walking trail, but it wouldn’t be that much different than any other place.
Broadway. While you probably can’t go into the stores you can hang out on the street and see “country people” and listen to country singer wannabees.
Centenial Park would be a good place to hang out. Sometimes they have concerts there, but it’s probably too late for that.
I’m not sure if they allow dogs, but I think they are having a ghost tour at Mount Olivet Cemetery. You walk around a cemetery and they have people portraying people buried there telling their story. It’s mainly civil war people as I remember. I went once and it was interesting.

I live in the area.
Visit Huntsville, instead.

Actually did the first week end of his moving in, both his mom and I without dog, her insisting on buying him some bedroom furniture for his room rented in house found on Craigslist … some surprisingly good restaurants, but no great desire to spend more time there.

Any advice for a quiet 24 year old liberal (Oberlin graduate if that tells you anything) new to the area? Can you sell Huntsville some?

I’m sure you already saw the Space and Rocket Center? Did you get to visit Lowe Mill (art studio complex)? Campus 805 (microbreweries etc)? Botanical garden? Art museum isn’t bad either, and right by the park. Burritt museum has a nice view. Monte Sano Park and Indian Creek are good places for walking, frisbee golf, etc.

Er, that’s about it.

Centennial Park, which is now for having the world’s only life-size recreation of the Parthenon, does also have a dog run. It’s a genuinely nice park with a lake, lots of open space, and some original steam locomotives and old-time airplanes on display.

And there’s a dog-themed cafe named Fido: Bongo Roasting Co. .

Not a tourist stop. And probably not dog friendly. But whenever I travel near Nashville, I stop at McKay’s. It’s one of my favorite used book stores.

Seconded.
