A day in the life of aha ( or Silo you asked for it)

Silo Said in another thread:

Ok you asked for it Silo

6:00 AM…Alarm sounds
6:15…shower shave and the other stuff you know…
6:50…head to work
7:00…Stop at McDonalds for a sausage and cheese bisquit and a cup of coffee. They see me coming through the windows and and have it ready by the time I get to the pay window.
7:15…Unlock the band hall and my office. Sit down and eat the sausage and cheese and read the Daily Oklahoman ( I call it the Daily Disappointment.)
7:50…Marching band students and flag corp girls arrive. We hike to the football field, play and march until 9:30. (Currently we are featuring Smoke on the Water and Wooly Bully.)
9:30-10:05…Planning. I use this time to make calls and check the office mail and unwind from teaching 45 band members.
10:05-1045- I teach intermediate band. Mostly 7th and 8th graders.
11:00 to 11:40 LUNCH!!! The highlight of my day!
11:45-1:15 Teach Humanities. ( this is an hour and a half block course). We are currently studying the great composers. Consist mostly of Juniors and Seniors.
1:15- 2:05 Planning again. Go up to the office and check the mail, phone messages and correct servere discipline problems if any.
2:05-2:50 Beginning band. The biggest challenge of the day. I have 29 6th graders enrolled in that class. Some of them can barely identify an instrument much less play one.
2:50-3:25…Time off (Bus duty on Wednesdays).
3:30-4:30 recliner and straightdope time at home. ahhhh
5:00 Suppertime ( The wIife and I usually eat out. Tonight it was pizza hut)
7:00-10:00 on Monday nights I teach computer classes to faculty and comnunity. Fridays I take the band to football games. Last friday we went to Tulsa Central ( 8 hours on the bus round trip got home at 2:45 AM.)

10:30 PM-Most nights I am in the bed dead to the world.

Apparently none of that includes writing Pepper back. :frowning:
It’s ok. You are a busy man, and I’m just a lowly pepperlandgirl.

Wow, sounds kinda busy but fun, aha.

I usually eat out too.

I know it can be tough to teach them youngsters music–but I bet you’re a cool teacher though. So do still play guitar/write music anymore?

(I’ll let you wander what a day in the life of Silo is like…;))

I don’t think I could teach band, though. Those off notes would drive me nuts.

Pepper check your email.

Silo I sure do play the guitar and sometimes with the marching band! ( Louie Louie and Smoke on the Water)

Handy…sometimes deafness could be a blessing I reckon.

Since a band by definition has no stringed instruments, what is a marching band called if it has a guitar player?

And Smoke On The Water…acoustic or electric?

CP:

A marching band in the band hall where there is electricity.

Electric…dunuhhh dunuhhh dunuhhhhhhhhhhhh dun da da-uhhhhhh dunuhhh dunuhhh daummm daum da-ummmmmmmmmm
It will make sense if you just hum along with it ok?

Smoke On The Water acoustic???

Dude that song was meant to be played through a wall of 200-watt Marshalls.

I love music, aha. When I was in high school the guitar was my best friend. When I was a senior I decided to join the advanced jazz band. It was a lot of fun. I’d play infront of the school (our HS had 3,000 students) and the teacher would let me do 20 bar solos. It’s like I was a nobody all-the-way through high school, but when I performed with jazz band everyone was like “you’re the man!” It was pretty cool.
Anyways, where can I find an MP3 of this “Western Union” song? I don’t think I’ve ever heard it.

Could you possibly e-mail it to me?

My e-mail address is: Antifluxx@aol.com

Also: aha, you gotta get to a dope-fest sometime. I’m sure a lot of the dopers would love to meet you in person.

Hey, I’m not an idiot, I just wondered who carried the amp around for him in the marching band and how long the extension cord was.

Smoke On The Water acoustic???
Yeah, yeah, CP quotes self. Fine.

When I was adjusting the impeadence between preamplifiers and the 400 Watt quads I built in my younger years with no oscilloscope, I used Smoke On The Water and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto to test for distortion at maximum amplification. It was cool. Furniture melted.

Do you get to go to Band Camp?
