A decent pie crust?

I can’t make a pie at home. No, I know how to cook and all, but I don’t have a working oven. My landlord is a cheapass and doesn’t fix anything, and the thing hasn’t worked since we moved in a year and a half ago. I don’t need advice about that, I’ve gotten all I can stand and it’s all either not legal in my state or I’ve already tried.

So my problem is… I LOVE pumpkin pie. I LOVE it. Except those nasty crusts! What the hell is that stuff? It’s like they soak cardboard in flour and water then mold it to the pie tin.

Is there such thing as an edible store bought pie crust (with a pie in it)?

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I like the pre-made shells in the dairy case.
Just like my mom used to make, but without the [Surprise!]lumps of flour.

But that still requires an oven. I’m talking about a decent crust on a ready-made pie.

Opal,

A relatively cheap resolve to your lame landlord.

It’s a convection oven, I have wanted one of these for a while. They say you can cook a five pound chicken and will fit a ten inch pie. Since I am single and only cook for me a regular oven can be expensive to run. Also, once you actually have a real oven working you can cook larger meals with ease.

The easier resolve is to find a good bakery rather than the grocery store. Our grocery store actually has a very good bakery department.

LOL, I forgot – you don’t eat chicken < grin >

Well, you can cook small casseroles like meat free lasana, you can still bake cookies and muffins etc…

The Safeway in my neighborhood does a pretty good pumkin pie (I don’t know how consistent this is from Safeway to Safeway).

Do not eat pumpkin pie at Denny’s.

If memory serves correctly, Marie Callendar’s has a pretty good pumpkin pie, crust included.

What he said.

Seriously though, Marie callendar does have an excellent pumpkin pie.
