A different people, same name question

As I mentioned recently in another thread, when TNT ran all the Harryhausen “Sinbad” movies in one night, many years ago, they had it hosted by actor/comedian Sinbad, dressed up in a typical “Sinbad” costume. So you almost get your wish.

Works for me.

He doesn’t have the right name, but based on his portrait, Jack Black could stand in for Paul Revere any time.

What about Jerry Lewis as Jerry Lee Lewis.

Sort of related trivia: In the TV movie John & Yoko, actor Mark Lyndsey was set to play John Lennon until his real full name came out: Mark Lyndsey Chapman. Since Lennon was killed by Mark (David) Chapman, the producers went with someone else. I mean, would you have John Kennedy played by Lee Harvey?

Isn’t that the origin of the “Sinbad was the genie in Shazam” thingy? People remember him dressed as Sinbad and attribute it to the movie?

How about a remake of Midnight Cowboy with Joe Buck as Joe Buck?

I don’t think she has the chops, but Jaye P. Morgan could play the financier/banker dude.

Bump.

This isn’t exactly the same thing, but I’ve (just now) been watching The Man in the High Castle and have been noticing that there is someone attached to the show named Emma Frost. And looking on the IMDB, I see that she was a writer on a series called The White Queen. (For those who don’t know why that is funny.)

Fuck! That is creepy!

George Wallace as George Wallace would be … interesting.

Lee Majors as Col. Steve Austin playing Stephen “Father of Texas” Austin.

(Yes, it’s desperate.)

Brett Butler’s “Grace Under Fire” was popular when Brett Butler was a LA Dodger outfield star. But CNN’s Robin Roberts came decades after the HoF career of Phillips pitcher Robin Roberts. Cardinal outfield star Terry Moore was never mistaken for Oscar nomminee actress Terry Moore. Eva Longoiria and Evan Longoria had contemporaneous careers as actress and ball player.

Or, wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin could play either Stephen Austin or Steve Austin in a Six Million Dollar Man remake. Yeah, I know that’s not his real name, but it’s the one he’s famous as.

Too late for the edit: What would be more natural than Armie Hammer playing his great-grandfather, industrialist Armand Hammer?

Speaking of which, and on another tangent, in Goosebumps Jack Black plays R.L. Stine, the real-and-fictional author of the Goosebumps books and also (in the film) a high school English teacher. At the end of the film he greets in passing “Mr. Black”, the high school drama teacher, played by the actual R.L. Stine.

I have a question. What is the opening of Japan?

This.

So many potential comedy answers, so few Suitable For Work…

I couldn’t even begin to guess. I knew there was an 80s band named Japan, and that’s as far as I got. Opening its trade routes with America would have been low on my list of guesses.

Fun fact: Stephen Sondheim wrote a musical about it called Pacific Overtures (with a recent off-Broadway revival). I don’t know if the current Matthew Perry can sing but perhaps there’s an opportunity there, although the Admiral tends to be played by one of the Asian actors.
