A&E's Airline

I’m pretty sure it’s just LAX, Chicago-Midway and Baltimore. Last season was only LA and Chicago, they added Baltimore in season two.

Before watching this show, I had no idea what these gate employees went through. I also had no idea so many people were so afraid of flying that they needed to pound back a few. But yeah, some of those employees deserve a medal for patience, or at least, not decking people.

Oh man, I love Airline! Like Lute Skywatcher, I’ve also seen the British one about Heathrow (an airport I “christened” as a kid, upon returning from Tenerife . . . ah, memories . . .). I don’t know what draws me to this show so much, but when A&E has Airline marathons I will often find myself watching a handful of episodes in a row, staring at the TV as though I’ve been hypnotized. My brother works for the TSA as a baggage screener, and has been doing that job since before there was a TSA, so I’ve heard some horror stories from him over the years – but nothing like what I see on these shows.

I’ve always had sympathy for gate agents and flight attendants (airline employees in general), but now I have even more. I alwas think of the show when I’m in an airport now. And one unexpected benefit is that when I fly, if any of my fellow travelers are annoying I’m able to compare them to the worst I’ve seen on TV and thank my lucky stars that they aren’t that bad (and you can be sure I thank my lucky stars that I haven’t traveled with any people that bad yet!).
