Well, it was no improvement over the original. In fact it was one big confusing piece of crap. What fuck was going on at the Jefferson Institute? 
I get that they were wharehousing coma patients and harvesting them for organs, just like in the original. But there were also running experiments (curing Alzheimer’s & Lupus) and impregnating female subjects to harvest stem cells. Is that right? Those were Mrs (Dr?) Emerson’s babies; what happened with them? Who all was in on this? Dr Lindquist, Susan’s professer (& her grandfather), the black surgeon, the white surgeon, and the Chief of Police? But if the chief of police was in why did send cops to the Institute? What exactly was Emerson’s role there? How could any if this possibly be kept secret for long? Did every single family opt for cremation? Why try to pull this off in a first-world countly like the US, with all the lawyers and free press running around? Why didn’t they just start out in China?

I wish I had the answers to your questions because I watched both parts last night and wow… what a hot mess of a story.
I’m glad someone brought this up because at the very end, when Susan was in the hospital bed and she said she had a bad dream, was that meant to be literal? Or did it really happen?
I assumed it was meant to imply everything that happened was a dream while in a coma. I base that on the fact that it is enough of a cliche to have been used in this crap-fest and also in the beginning I thought there a scene where she falls at the pool and hits her head?
So everything between those two points was just a coma induced dream but… TEXT MESSAGE OMIGOD BOTOXED-GEENA-DAVIS IS IN CHINA!
