Just watched this movie again after a few years. Something in it kinda struck me as odd. How is that we can have a US military base in a foreign country that we are not on good terms with? In this case, Cuba.
The base was established in 1898 during the Spanish-American War.
After that, we just decided to keep it there no matter what Cuba thought about it. Yes, technically we have a hundred-year-old lease, but I doubt that Castro is much inclined to honor the terms.
I’ve heard that although we keep making payments to Castro for the leased land, he has never cashed a single check and keeps them in a drawer to show select tourists.
