A first aid Question....

Ok, can anyone tell me WHY first aid kits are green?

I seriously hope someone knows!

TIA

Mine is white plastic with red writing and a big red cross. I’ve also seen blue ones.

I can’t remember seeing many green ones. I’ve seen white ones, blue ones and red ones too. Where are you? Maybe it’s a regional thing?

According ANSI (American National Standards Institute) publication Z535.1:

I no longer have on-line access to industry standards, but this site gives more information on the use of colors in association with safety signage.

If it means anything, green is also the logo color for the National Safety Council (y’know, the folks who, among other things, administer defensive driving classes). Now, why green was chosen to symbolize safety, I have no idea.

OSHA and ANSI have determined that green is the color for safety equipment. Read more about it here. Here is a link that summarizes the colors and locations.

Why green? Probably because the other colors were taken. Red is generally a danger or stop color. White rarely statys white for very long. Blue is used for information. Orange and yellow for caution.

If it is not for an OSHA requirement, such as for the home or vehicle, then anything that floats your boat is fine.
