Actually, I forgot to check the weekly specials. Depending on when you go and how far in advance you order tickets, they’ve got Albany to Chicago for $51.60 right now (through Nov. 16). Some dates may already be sold out, I didn’t check them all.
Anaamika, go here. The cheapest non-member flight that they list there for Albany to Denver is $198.
I can go Dulles (dc) to Malaga for around $775. That’s a bit better than Travelocity.
I’ve got to switch in London and Madrid though… roughly two hours between flights which isn’t horrible but if there are delays, it might be tight.
True that two stops might not be nice, but remember that in Europe a connection doesn’t normally involved having to go through security & passport control & everything.
There’s also loads of ways of flying to Malaga from within Europe with low-cost airlines. And bear in mind that Madrid-Malaga is only 4 hours by train, which can easily balance out waiting two hours for a ninety-minute flight.
You might want to try going to a travel agent for a cheaper ticket. There’s some kind of system where travel organizations reserve large numbers of seats on international flights and make them available only through travel agencies. I don’t really know the details, but this coming from a family friend in the travel business. It’s worth a shot, I guess.
Everybody who helped me with ticket fare, thank you, but I won’t be going after all. Don’t read on if you’re not interested.
Found out my mother was also going to be there, as well as my two aunts and my “adopted” cousin. I am not putting my self into that kind of situation, where they can all badger me about the shambles my life is in (in their eyes) and try to get me married off.
Hmm, good airfare you say, though? Maybe Las Vegas next year, just me and the SO…:: begins plotting ::
In the future, it can also be worthwhile to call the airlines directly. I’ve gotten tickets that were half what the Internet claimed that way.
Ugh, amen on flight prices being fucked up in general. If I want to go home over winter break*, it’s looking like at least $300 round trip.
*I don’t, in fact, actually want to go home over break. However, unless I can find a friend who lives off campus who’s willing to let me live there for a month, and also avoid getting my parents too drastically pissed off (not to mention the horrid monstrosity that is my extended family), it’s homeward bound come December.
I just booked Chicago-Malaga for $623 - I have a long layover in London, but it’s 2 flight legs, not 3. (Could have booked a shorter layover, but I figured it was better to have a longer one and hop into the city to catch a museum rather than twiddle my thumbs in Heathrow for 4 hours, if I’m going to be cashed by the time I get to Malaga anyway.)
Check around - I booked mine on Orbitz, and Expedia charged over $100 more for the exact same flights on the exact same airlines.
Trip is off. I start work again on Tuesday of next week and can’t exactly take a week off one week after I start. :smack:
Planning to go there in spring though. Definitely. I need a vacation.
Not sure exactly when you’re leaving, but how about ABQ to BWI (Southwest or American are your best choices) and then to 30th St. Station on Amtrak? Then perhaps SEPTA from there to somewhere closer to home if your parents don’t want to come in? (I have done a lot of this kind of scheduling over the years. Comes from going to school in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania with no car and trying to go home to Albuquerque while not paying too much. Send me an email if you want help.) In my experience, PHL to ABQ was never a really good option due to the price, though it’s better now that Southwest flies into Philly. And I’d offer, but you’d have to come all the way down here and it would probably be, well, awkward.
Just for future reference, I noticed a few days ago that a one-way fare at Shamrock.org from the USA to Ireland is running about $124. Hell, who wants to come back?
