A friend's quest for a perfect place...

She wants to relocate from Idaho to somewhere else, her first pick being around Orlando FL because of all the stuff to do, the scenery & the weather. However, she’s concerned about humidity & mildew & how reasonable it is to live there.

She’s on a fixed income and wants to move to a state that has a good HUD program so that she could qualify for a good housing purchase. The problem is she makes perhaps $9000 annually but could put down maybe $15,000-$20,000
down payment, had perfect credit & several credit cards with $15,000 limits. She’s interested in getting into a good HUD program because in subsidized housing they pay 85% of rental costs. She’s heard there are housing programs that would do the same if you could put down a substantial down payment & wants info on this. She looked at a Reno, Nevada housing program which specified having an income of $35,000/yr which she considers ridiculous, that much not being low income.

Any advice? I’m at a loss at how to direct her.

Maybe San Diego, or El Paso, or Phoenix or Tucson? They are pleasant and interesting places without so much humidity. I don’t know what their HUD programs are like.

I think she’s conflating the HUD program (probably Section 8 vouchers) with state housing programs. More info here:
