I was watering the flowers , and I heard a loud splash…then I saw him! A beautiful green frog, in my garden pool!
He is most welcome…I hope he makes a dent in the fly and mosquito population…but HOW did he get here? I built the pool this spring. We live more than a mile from a stream or pond…so how did he find his way here? Is there any chance he will bring his friends? I’d love to have a resident frog population!
Where do frogs go in the winter? I hope to have a thriving frog colony soon!
Awesome. We used to have a frog who lived in a little part of our yard which never drained. But one day he disappeared. I hope a snake didn’t get him.
Can’t answer your question about how yours got there. Lucky you. I love frogs. LOVE them.
In the winter frogs swim to the bottom of the lake/pond they live in, burry themselves with mud and hibernate. I’m pretty sure anyway!
That is so cool! I don’t have a pond in my yard, but I would so love to get one just for the potential of frogs. Their singing at night is one of my favorite sounds.
That is cool! I’d love to have a frog friend. We have about a million little green lizard friends; the more of THEM that are around the better, since they too eat bugs! But we don’t have a pond, so no frogs.
If he’s a common species, maybe you could find him/her a mate at your local pet store.
Now, how to determine if it’s a girl frog or a boy frog, I have no idea.
Do any of your neighbors have ponds? Maybe the frog got kicked out of his home in a territory dispute and moved to yours. Maybe a frog egg got stuck to the feathers of a bird which then alit on your pond, dropping him into the water when the bird washed his feathers. Maybe he’s an enchanted prince.
just what I was thinking! Did you notice a tiny crown on his head? We have several that make there home under the edge of the Hot-tub cover, apparently they prefer that to the pond that less than ten feet away
Its always a challenge to open the cover without having to scoop a frog outta the tub before he gets cooked!
Heh. My neighbors had a frog in their yard last spring. It was a good loud frog, and croaked all night long. We loved it, but the neighbor was pissed. Mind you, this is a noisy neighbor: his television, stereo, and Harley make themselves felt all over the neighborhood. Anyway, he thought he could get rid of the frog by spraying the backyard with bug spray, and could never figure out why the frog seemed unaffected. The guy is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
