I totally agree with the Love’s Baby Soft suggestions. It was the definitive scent.
She needs a Raggedy Ann doll.
And a copy of Gnomes
Also, The Preppy Handbook
Posters of Leif Garret and Sean Cassidy
Bring a bunch of yarn and teach her to make pompons and dreamcatchers.
Give her some cheerleading pom poms and teach her a cheer
A baton to twirl and a hoola hoop.
Watch “Benji” “Pippi Longstocking” and “Flashdance.”
And drink lots of Fresca
ETA: You guys are absolutely THE BEST !!!
Loves Baby Soft for sure.
Lip Smackers in Dr. Pepper flavor
The Valley Girl Song fur sure, like totally, oh my god.
Get the original Jane Fonda workout and do that.
Leif garret and Shawn Cassidy were not the guys a girl born in '72 would like. They were done by the time we were interested. Think more of MTV era.
Have a Pepsi/Coke challenge.
Let her be prom queen. A tiara, a sash, a huge tacky corsage. The group can do her makeup, hair, and nails before the coronation.
Oh hell yes. I also second the nail polish idea, and maybe a How to apply '70s makeup session, complete with cheap drug store makeup.
My first thought was a copy of “Our Bodies, Ourselves”. The girls I knew were mostly teens in the 70s but I remember that as being a fairly common title, at least among the more liberal set.
A Trapper Keeper. Bonus points if it’s Lisa Frank, but I think those go for big bucks on ebay.
Also, I think Hello Kitty was big in some circles.
An autograph book, maybe?
I was born in early 80s, and there were my young child years. And I know several others here also said they were '80s things. So I looked them up to see when they came out.
So according to the great and venerable Wikipedia:
Rainbow Brite - Media franchise introduced in 1983. Cartoon premiered in 1985.
Strawberry Shortcake - First doll released in 1979. TV specials 1980-1985.
Cabbage Patch Kids - original copyright registered in 1978 as “The Little People” - name change to “Cabbage Patch Kids” 1982. Height of popularity 1984.
Care Bears - Greetings cards introduced in 1981. Plush bears in 1983. Movies and cartoon made in the 1983-1987 time period.
I was born in 1971. There are some great suggestions in this thread already, to which my contribution is Sun In (but only if it still turns brown hair red/orange).
