A good day on the glurge-stopping front

Today at work, one of my co-workers forwarded the following email to me and a bunch of other people:

I’ve responded to stuff like this before with a cite from Snopes, and was getting ready to look this one up, when I got distracted.

But a few minutes later, one of my co-workers beat me to it: she replied to all, stating that it was a hoax, and quoting chapter and verse from Snopes, complete with link, and recommending that Snopes be checked before passing on such emails.

It’s heartwarming to no longer be the only one in the office who’s pushing Snopes when glurge is passed around the office.

Ahhhh, good to see one more brick kicked out of the wall of ignorance. Did you write her back commending her research and effort?

Whoopee! Another soldier in the unending battle against glurge!

Did you know previously that this coworker was snopes-savvy? Does she know that she’s not the only one in the office fighting the good fight?

I dropped by her desk and thanked her in person.

We’d talked briefly about Snopes once after I responded to an email hoax several months ago that we were both on the distribution list for, so I knew she knew about it. But it was sweet to see her jump right in and take the lead, when I didn’t get to it first thing.

Now, if we can get our co-worker who shares the glurges with the office, to get with the program, then we’ll have accomplished something. (It’s the same person every time.)
