a graduate thanks you, Albuquerque Academy

Yes, it’s mundane and pointless. Right forum for it, no?

After reading this Pit thread about the sorry state of education in the US, I once again felt a sense of gratitude to my high school alma mater.

As much as I hated being there for seven years (hold your jokes, I was there for middle school too), and as many horrible, horrible adolescent memories I have from my tenure there, I’m grateful. It was and is among the finest secondary schools in the nation, with a staff to rival many colleges. The fact that I have yet, these xxxx years after graduation, completed a damned bachelor’s degree notwithstanding, the education that I received there (often against my will, I confess) has been and will always be invaluable.

So, thank you, Albuquerque Academy, for giving me the tools I use daily. For teaching me to think. For rooting my intellect in the richest soil and ensuring it took root.

Thank you, Miriam McCluney, Steve Alexander, and Chuck Wong. God rest your souls.

Thanks, Mickey, for not giving up on me, however much you wished to.

Thanks to all the rest of my teachers, even the ones whose radar screens I managed to slip underneath.
But most of all, thank you Mom and Dad, for scrimping, saving, and struggling to see me through seven years. I didn’t appreciate it. I do now.

Thank you.
