A gun control legislation thread!

The Senate just voted down all four measures that came to the floor in the wake of the filibuster last week.

Good.

Agreed.

You can’t take away someone’s rights on the basis of mere suspicion. That’s not how this country works. The Democrats have been bitching for 15 years about the government violating people’s rights on basis of mere suspicion of terrorism, but when it is a right they don’t believe you should have in the first place, suddenly they are okay with it. Sickening.

Agreed. I argue that the no-fly list itself is violative of due process, but at least the right to fly commercial is not a constitutionally ennumerated one.

I’m curious why you limit this to just what is available to the police? Why don’t you feel as strongly about anything available to the military for self defense?

nice

I was sincere in my thanks. It’s rare to hear an actual personal opinion from someone. We may disagree, but thanks for being clear.

You’re not asking why we can’t own aircraft carriers and B-2 bombers, are you?

I think you are looking at my position from the wrong end of the telescope. I think that the second amendment covers several rights. Chief among them is the right to self defense. If we are willing to deny certain arms to the police to use in their self defense, I think it is reasonable to deny the same things to the general population to use in THEIR self defense. If police started carrying around fragmentation grenades, then I would wonder why grenades are only good for the goose and not good for the gander. I suppose that you could make an argument that there are some thing available to police that don’t have to be made available to the general population but nothing really comes to mind.
