We all meet people online, and eventually we meet some of them in real life at some function or some get together. Well here is one guy I dearly hope to meet one day.
I’ve been chatting with him for a while and the more I learn about him (and he’s real, I’ve verified stuff) the more I want to meet him and shake his hand. US Army Airborne, reall wuss as you can tell.
This guy served in Vietnam, took a Bouncing betty to the head while trying to disarm it from a soldier’s foot. The Doctors got as much shrapnel as they could, but they left a fair bit in his head hoping the body would work it out itself.
He then served various other tours despite his purple heart from that. Including serving in Iraq (Gulf War, not the current incursion) and jumped on a grenade that got thrown into the middle of his squad. This proceeded to obliterate much of his intestines.
Not to mention that he still has shrapnel in his head from the mine, some of which gave him a stroke earlier this month.
And only weeks before the stroke, the Army promoted him to One Star General. And to think he was disappointed because he thought he was going to be the first man in his direct line, since the Civil War / War of the States / War of Northern Aggression, to not reach the rank of General.
He’s just one of those guys I pray to some day meet and shake his hand.
