"A Hard Day's Night" on DVD.

If you’re a Beatles fan, go out and get it. Now. Don’t even finish reading this post. Just go.

The video transfer is crystal clear and the sound … my God, it was like seeing the movie again for the first time.

I haven’t yet gone through the extras yet to see if the second disc is worth it, but at $19.99, this has got to be the disc of the year.

I bought it yesterday and spent the afternoon watching first the movie, then the features on the second disk. The sound is wonderful! I could hear the difference between this and my old videotape even before we were half-way through the opening credits.

The extras: some are more interesting than others. I liked Richard Lester’s and George Martin’s reminiscences on the film, and Martin’s going over the songs. The memories of the actor who played the young boy with Ringo, and an actress who had a cut scene with Paul–particularly their brushes with the screaming fans of full-blown Beatlemania–also interested me. And check out the bit about Wilfrid Brambell; I never realized that the “clean old man” thing was an in joke about his role on “Steptoe and Son.”

:frowning: My husband got it for his b-day, but our PS2 won’t play it, and now i can’t watch it until we get a DVD player. (Christmas)
I think I’m gonna cry. :frowning:

Your PS2 won’t play it? Uh-oh. Do you mind telling what version PS2 you have (it’s on the back of the machine, I have a 30001-R) and what version DVD drivers you’re using (you can see that on the browser screen)?

“When you think about it, the Beatles really just were the New Kids on the Block of their generation.”

I don’t care for the Beatles. Saying this to someone, especially in a bar, is guaranteed to get quite a rise from them.
