A "Hey it's that guy" moment

There’s no such thing as a young M. Emmet Walsh, he’s been 86 forever. Neat trick if you can pull it off.

I still can’t get over the fact that this guy…

used to be this guy…

Someone brought up this same subject in the tavern, and a friend of mine said "Oh, him.I’ve seen him in _____ and _____ too. He’s a That Guy."

"He’s a That Guy?"

"Y’know, he walks onto the screen and you say ‘Ohhh, it’s… ummm, That Guy…’ That’s a That Guy!"

Roger Ebert said, “No movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad.”

I wonder if Frank Darabont – while filming The Green Mile – had any instances of hollering, “Dean Stanton!” and getting two replies: one from Toot Toot (Harry DS) and one from Barry Pepper (playing DS).

Newsview, not Newsweek.

I always thought “Pickles,” Buddy Sorrell’s wife on Dick van Dyke, was like Niles’ wife Maris on Frasier—often talked about but never seen.

Well, Pickles showed up in the flesh in today’s episode of DvD. I thought the actress who played her looked familiar, so I did an IMDb search. Turns out she was Joan Shawlee, who played (among other roles) “Bandleader Sweet Sue” in Some Like It Hot.

I saw every episode of the original Poldark series back in the '70s and fell in love with the actress who played Morwenna. It wasn’t until after I had seen numerous episodes of Midsomer Murders many years later that I realized Joyce Barnaby was played by the same actress, Jane Wymark.

Has anyone tried to spot Jack Benny in “Casablanca”?

From Benny’s Wikipedia article:

Benny may have had an uncredited cameo role in Casablanca , claimed by a contemporary newspaper article[20] and advertisement[21] and reportedly in the Casablanca press book. When asked in his column “Movie Answer Man”, film critic Roger Ebert first replied, “It looks something like him. That’s all I can say.”[22] He wrote in a later column, “I think you’re right.”[23]

Arggh! I’ve tried. Is he the waiter? The guy in a fez? The officer with a Sam Browne belt? Nobody seems to know for sure.

The older blonde lady (Carol Kane) in “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”.

She looked familiar to me but I couldn’t place her. So I Googled and found out I’m more familiar with her voice work than I am her face. Which is probably why it was driving me crazy trying to remember where I “saw” her.

I know her from Taxi, Seinfeld, and Gotham.

She was in Princess Bride and Scrooged, too.

Carol Kane made me think of this guy. He played the Russian novelist who brained Carol with Elaine’s pocket secretary in the “Marine Biologist” episode of Seinfeld.

He’s been in a lot of things, including different iterations of Star Trek, but I remember him best as one of Al Mundy’s handlers in the third season of It Takes a Thief.

If you Google “Jack Benny in Casablanca” you get a bunch of stuff to look at.

I saw this guy last night in 1950’s Appointment with Danger:

He had a long career as a character actor, but I remember him as a Syndicate boss in the Mission: Impossible episode “Mastermind” (1969).

It never landed before, but while watching an episode of ER the penny finally dropped and I realized the actress that plays Alex Kingston’s mother is also Sister Monica Joan. Cool!

In 1984 I was watching Karate Kid with a friend and I exclaimed, “Wow! It’s that girl from the Burger King ad!” And so it was, Elizabeth Shue.

I’ve been watching the early episodes of DVDyke; in the third and fourth episodes (and maybe more), the kid who delivers coffee to the office is Jamie Farr, and in the fourth episode, the guy who sits next to Rob on the airplane is the Maytag Repairman himself.

Yep, both Jesse and Jamie were all over the place in the '60s:

This guy was in Thursday’s 1967 episode of That Girl. Recognize him? He’s Jerry Seinfeld’s “Uncle Leo.”

These two will be in Tuesday’s episode:

I’m half-way through Escape from The Planet Of The Apes, and it’s a smorgasbord: M. Emmet Walsh, Eric Braeden, John Randolph, James B. Sikking, William Windom, Sal Mineo, Bradford Dillman, probably more.
