Then neither is Islam.
That doesn’t make any sense. You don’t have to be religious yourself to recognize that different cultures and traditions are different.
They are all variations on a theme. Until you have an efficient value scale, they may as well all be worthless.
Good luck with convincing others of that.
You can start by convincing the French to enjoy English cooking. And give up that silly ‘speaking French’ thing they do.
It’s a practical issue. It’s easier for all other language speakers to learn English, than it is for English speakers to learn every other language.
Plus, if you’re a Welsh parent and all you allow your child to learn is Welsh, that should be a form of child abuse.
So we should all become American? What about culture? Nationalism?
- Erm, no. What gave you that idea?
- What about it? I think it’s overrated.
- "Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first. " — Charles de Gaulle
Oh, and patriotism isn’t exactly something to brag about, either. We are all victims of circumstance.
- The fact that you said we should all speak English?
- Culture is very important. If you can’t see that, I won’t argue with you.
- Alright, what about Patriotism then?
EDIT: So? Can’t a father be proud of his son for getting good grades in school? That’s a matter of circumstance too.
Guys… I will note that Ivan generally is quite clear in delineating between Jews and Christians. He has, in Great Debates, shown that not only can he differentiate, but that he supports certain views about Jews as a group. For example:
I would suggest that there’s not much point engaging with his new argument that Jews are really just Christians, a claim that virtually nobody on the planet would agree with and one that just so happens to be rather offensive.
What I find funny is how much this thread has been hijacked by the ‘Israel is evil’ crowd who seemingly just want another thread to bust on Israel and Zionism.
This not being the Pit, I’ll just agree with you and say you could easily broaden this to encompass more subjects than simply one related to Israel or the Jewish people.
