A "Just War"?

Is the coming war with Iraq "just.?

Can any war really be “just.”

There have been some crackdowns of late about posting personal opinions in this forum, which is dedicated to questions with factual answers. Clearly any answer will be an opinion, so I won’t reply hear.

Wars can be just if the victor defeated an unjust enemy. In that regard, World War I and II were just wars for the Allies.

Vietnam was not a just war, because its policies and objectives were unjust and the victor calls it a justifcation of their right of self rule and self determination.

So a war being just depends on who youre talking to, the winner or the loser.

There is a Doctrine of Just War. I think this is probably what the OP is referring to. I don’t know details, but even though it’s somewhat subjective, I can say almost certainly that if you asked the people who put a lot of stock in this Doctrine, this war does not fulfill the several requirements to be Just. However, very few wars do.
