Not really. Bush and his friends really were trying to eliminate as much freedom as possible and turn America into a one-party state. They failed, but that doesn’t mean that they weren’t trying and didn’t do a huge amount of damage. And then you have everything from his non-response to Katrina, to the gloating over California’s artificial “energy crisis”, to the Iraq war, and so on.

Sadly, you probably don’t recognize the irony of this response. :smack:

Even so it is ironic that I have heard some Republicans claim that they will move abroad to get away from Obama’s ‘socialism’. I think they’ll be shocked when they discover most of the rest of the free world is to the left of any Democrat.

Now, that said. Firstly, I was wrong. I let my optimism get the best of me. I even lashed out at Thomas L. Knapp a time or two, saying he was nuts for his predictions. Tom was right. I was fantastically wrong. We were crushed last night at all levels, most especially in the Senate races. There is virtually no good news from last night’s results for the libertarian wing of the GOP. I apologize Tom. I hope you can see fit to accept my apology.

Secondly, today starts a new course for my life. I’ve soured on electoral politics given what happened last night. I believe now the best course of action is outright revolt. What do I mean by that?

Well, to each his own. Some may choose to push secession in their state legislatures. Others may choose to leave the U.S. for good (Costa Rica, Switzerland, Italy, Argentina, Hong Kong, Israel). Still others may want to personally separate themselves from the United States here in North America while still living under communist rule’ the Glenn Beck, grab your guns, food storage, build bunkers, survivalist route. I heartily endorse all these efforts.

Express your hatred, shame, and outright disgust with anyone you know who voted Democrat

And that’s just the prelude, read on and the fun really begins!

Do you work for someone who voted for Obama? Quit your job. Co-workers who voted for Obama. Simply don’t talk to them in the workplace, unless your boss instructs you too for work-related only purposes. Have clients who voted Democrat? Call them up this morning and tell them to take their business elsewhere.

Have a neighbor who votes for Obama? You could take a crap on their lawn. Then again, probably not a good idea since it would be technically illegal to do this. But you could have your dog take care of business. Not your fault if he just happens to choose that particular spot.

Regarding Bush and friends as nutty fascists is far more justifiable than portraying Obama as a socialist, much less an extreme one. Despite the popularity of defending the Republicans by pretending to a false equivalency between the two sides.

I had several of those “we cannot be FB friends if you supported Romney” messages. And they’re not Americans. Nor am I. And I’d have voted Obama if I was.

Nonetheless, I obliged them.

This is false equivalency. Voting for Romney is a legitimate reason to shun someone. The election of Obama is hardly the same thing. Even if you don’t like all of his policies, which I don’t, he election is not a disaster for our nation.

Now that’s just revisionist history. While I never saw anyone threaten to commit suicide, plenty of liberals declared they were going to move to Canada or the UK, and picketed in the streets about Bush’s ‘‘fascism.’’ There were some pretty damned immature responses from liberals then. They were equally ludicrous.

I think the biggest difference is that the internet is much denser now than it was in 2004. People were certainly partisan, but there was very little social media and far less noise.

Thirdly, I believe we all need to express disgust with Obama and Democrats in public places. To some extent I already do this. Example:

When I’m at the Wal-mart or grocery story I typically pay with my debit card. On the pad it comes up, “EBT, Debit, Credit, Cash.” I make it a point to say loudly to the check-out clerk, “EBT, what is that for?” She inevitably says, “it’s government assistance.” I respond, “Oh, you mean welfare? Great. I work for a living. I’m paying for my food with my own hard-earned dollars. And other people get their food for free.” And I look around with disgust, making sure others in line have heard me.

Nice. You know, people like this always think of somebody out there, living it up on their welfare earnings. They don’t think about the fact that a good portion of what they are supporting are children. Do they want them to starve, too? And then they say, in perfect seriousness, “Why don’t they just stop having less children?” While on the other side they are making it difficult to get birth control (not just condoms, real birth control) and abortions and plan parenthood, not just fall into it.

Can we put him in the first batch to go settle Mars please? See, I have a little idea. We go set up a special area on Mars. (Once we figure out how much artificial gravity we need to even be able to make the trip, much less the technicalities of spinning the craft but keeping the equipment working that is.) This special area will be sequestered. Supplies and such can go to it, but the residents there cannot leave. (Maybe with some rare exceptions made.) We’ll send Fred Phelps and his followers there, and this fellow, and others like him. We’ll sell it as they can have their own place, to run things as they want. We won’t go bother them, so long as they don’t come bother us. It’d work for a few lifetimes at least. If we are careful, it might even do better than other colonies did, penal or otherwise. Of course, I don’t see Mars as becoming heavily settled in the first place. Maybe it will in a century or two though.

At least when the liberals were crying about the election, they were threatening to move to a country that shared their ideals about a social safety net, a country that has universal healthcare, a country that would not send troops to Iraq for stupid reasons.

Now when conservatives/libertarians threaten to move to Canada or Norway (Norway!) or Australia, it just confirms that they know nothing about the rest of the world.

It’s as if a liberal/socialist/pinko voter was so pissed off at Bush’s re-election in 2004 that he said “I wish we could all be more like Pinochet’s Chile. Now there was a man and a country that knew how to get things done!”
