A little bit of levity re:DAESH & al - Big blooper in Spanish TV: Al-Qaeda is the "Star Wars" rebels

OK, in the middle of all the gloom and seriousness of international news… A little bit of unintentional levity, which I offer to you all, hoping that it will at least induce a wry smile.

“La Mañana” (“The Morning”) is a news-commentary program on TVE, the main Spanish TV broadcaster. They were talking about Paris, Daesh, the operations in Syria, etc.

The journalist in charge of things was speaking in front of a screen showing graphs and other information, when…

They showed what they purported to be the logo of Al-Qaeda.

What they were showing was the logo of the Rebel Alliance in “Star Wars”.

Check it out (link in English):

Of course, the memes began flowing immediately. Here in this page (in Spanish) you can see a few of them.

My favorites:

“I never thought of Luke this way” (Image)

“For the next time, be aware that the real Al-Qaeda logo is this one” (Image)

An oldie but a goodie: Fox News report from Endor.

Do you guys know when the Bennett tweet is from? The one from Cal Pinocho (Chez Pinocchio), shown in El País link, is from 23:13 - 16 nov 2015. Wondering which of them found it first.

(For anybody wondering about the funky spelling in that tweet it’s Catalan, not Spanish)
