A little Outlook help?

How the heck do I keep myself on BCCs?

My fantasy baseball league is discussing things with all the players email addresses in the TO field. Simple enough.

So someone sends something.

I reply. Apparently when I do that Outlook assumes I already know what I said and removes me from the ‘TO’ field.

Someone else replies. I don’t get that reply.

I’ve even been desperate enough to ask that damn paperclip. No luck.

Someone show me some love here.

always hit the"reply to all" button.
And ask everyone to do that also.
Mails should keep coming back to you, even if you’ve sent them.

try it out and let me know how you get on

I’ve already tried that.

It’s when I hit ‘reply to all’ that my address gets dropped.

I’m confused. If you’ve sent the message, your name should be appearing in the FROM field. Any reply at all, whether the recipient hits “Reply” or “Reply to All,” should come back to you, no?

If, in fact, you’re using the BCC field, that’s another kettle of fish, since the contents of the BCC field are effectively invisible to anyone else who receives the message, so no reply can ever go to someone whose address appears only in the BCC field. (That’s why it’s a blind copy, after all!)

Hmm. Good point.

I was mistaken. All the addresses are in the ‘TO’ field.

The only way I can think of that you might not be getting replies would be if someone who’s received the message, instead of hitting “Reply,” is, instead, creating an entirely new mail message, and then copying and pasting all the addresses from the TO field of your message. That way, of course, your address wouldn’t be included, since it only appears in the FROM field.

One way to cure this problem entirely: in your Contacts list, create a Distribution List that includes all of the folks in your league, and include your own email address on the list. I know for a fact that, when you send a message to a distribution list, Outlook does not remove your own address from the list.

To create a DL in Outlook, choose Contacts, then use the pulldown menu next to New, and choose Distribution List. Use Select Members to add names to the list. Each address you want to put on the list, of course, must already be in your Contacts folder (or another folder of contacts).

In Outlook Express, it’s a little different. You have to choose Addresses (to open your address book), then, from the New pulldown menu, choose New Group. Again, all the addresses you put into the group must be in your address book already, including your own.

The easiest way of avoiding this from happening, is when you’re workomg with an email list.

I’m in a skydiving club, and I’m subscribed to an email list. If someone wants to sedn something to the whole list, they just need to send it to one email address: ipcgang@yahoogroups.com, for instance. if and when people then hit reply to all, the replies will be sent to:

a) the whole list (which includes everyone who’s subscribed to it)
b) the person who sent it originally.

So your emails should always arrive, as people will always keep on replying to the first address, which has everybody’s address in it.

Maybe you can solve your problems like that? Just start up a group?
