A Lot of People Walking Dogs In Your Neighborhood?

They sure are in mine. And in the metro area too.

In fact I was in Berkeley (a suburb north of Detroit). I often go to a 7-11 there. Anyway, you wouldn’t believe how many people were walking their dogs there. And often, I don’t think they were the recommended 6 feet apart.

I am sure it was all very innocent. I mean it’s not like they were trying to cleverly skirt the stay-at-home rule.

But have any of you noticed a similar thing where you live? I’m just wondering.

The Michigan Stay at home rule still allows going for a walk or a jog, dog or no dog.

So does Washington’s. It’s not a house arrest.

There are tons of people with dogs in my apartment complex. The 6 foot rule must be miserable for some of these dogs as they love humans and are always looking to be petted.

Same in Indiana. We can go for walks, we just can’t drive to get to a trail or park.

I’ve seen plenty of facebook memes about it - like the dog getting sick and tired of all the walks, but in my limited view of the outside world through my window and on the hiking trails connected to my backyard  I have not seen more people walking their dog, I’d say about the same.

Since I am the only person in tbe neighborhood that walks a dog, there has been an increase in dog walking. It’s because I’m now working from home full time and use my lunch break for an extra dog walk,

I was surprised at the number of people walking dogs when I went to the grocery store Sunday. However, it is one of the first warm Spring days with good weather in Central Arkansas.

I haven’t noticed an increase in people walking their dogs, but I have noticed an increase in people who don’t have dogs going out for walks. FWIW, I live in Virginia, where we don’t have a shelter-in-place law, but we do have a lot of businesses closed or people working from home.

We’ve been walking our dogs every day, but haven’t seen anyone else (they’d be trespassing).

Our dogs are absolutely loving this quarantine situation.

Gazillion people and dogs on our hike and bike trails. Yes, it is sad seeing some Labs scrunch up and start going in orbit around their tail when you talk to their owner, yet there is no petting. Hilarious watching people go for a morning pull with their strong-willed and ill-behaved sporting breed. Wear roller skates and they’d have their own personal chariot.

Everyone’s just a little stir crazy, and we can still drive places. The restrictions CelticKnot’ described sound nuts.

Daawwwww! What a beautiful pack, kayaker!

You know this will now be the new normal for them, right? Amazing how my dog could forget things she didn’t want to do, but repeat something nice twice and “Now It Shall Always Be Thus…”

I’m the only person in my neighborhood who walks their dog on a regular basis, but there are a lot of dogs living here. People just don’t walk them.

Until now…everyone is walking, with or without dogs. I know this because my dogs bark at them all day. Never used to be this way.

Also my dog is leash reactive so it’s a typhoon of dog every time we pass another dog on the street. We’ve had to take measures to try to avoid these new walkers when we go out!

Even with all the barking and craziness, I hope this trend continues. I’m sure the doggies appreciate it!!!

Nearly everyone on the streets in my neighborhood has been accompanied by their dog. There’s the occasional jogger out there, but mainly dog walkers.

Our dogs have been pooping in the back garden, and are fine with it. A couple times a day I throw dog toys for them to chase, for exercise.

My neighborhood has ALWAYS been a great dog-walking neighborhood. It’s older (homes built from the 1900s through the 1930s), near downtown, with a mixed population, i.e., retired people, college students, families with little kids, well-off, middle class, some poor-ish, many owners, many renters (like me). This means that there were always lots of people home during the daytime. But now–dog walking is off the charts. My desk looks out to my front yard and the street, and during any given hour I’ll see at least one dog walker with one or more dogs. Many of those lucky doggies are getting two or more walks per day. I walk my Sweetie at least once a day, but I take my own 5,000 step walk first thing in the morning and pass plenty of dog walkers. We don’t pass near each on the sidewalk–when one of us sees someone coming toward us, one will take the initiative and cross the street.

I walk my dog every single day. She goes nuts if I don’t. I walk her twice a day, if I can manage it.

However, it used to be that I had to walk her before 7am, so, not too many other people out when we were.

Now we walk later, usually between 9am & noon. She also used to go to daycare on Tuesdays, because I worked late, and because she loves it, and the extra running around once a week is good for her-- at daycare, she runs around and plays with other dogs all day.

I think probably the very early of very late walkers like me are walking mid-day now, and the dogs who used to go to daycare are staying home and getting walked instead. People don’t need daycare, and it’s a way to save money.

In which a retired radio personality relates chatting with fellow walkers … at a distance.

Yep. For the past two weeks, I’ve seen tons of dog walkers, kid walkers, just-getting-out-of-the-house walkers, and runners. My county is under a stay-at-home order, but we’re allowed to go out to walk or run, and lots of people have been taking advantage of this. The other night, I had to swerve around a group of teenagers on a road where I rarely see a car, much less a pedestrian.

I live in a neighborhood with lots of dogs (many apartment buildings, which accept them). Last week I saw a couple with two kids walking their dogs. Dogs need to be walked several times per day if you don’t have a backyard (unless they’re really small and well-trained).

I also see smokers outside, the homeless, runners… There is still some traffic on the streets as well.

I walk mine twice a day. Once in the woods and then again on the sidewalks. We’d always see the same people walking their dogs in the neighborhood. Since this Shelter at Home thing started I’m seeing people and dogs I’ve never seen before out walking. Where I could count on seeing maybe one or 2 other people walking their dogs during my walk, I know see 5+. One day I counted 15 people out walking during my 45 min walk.
