By the end of the day, I was beginning to wonder if I wasted my life and $$$$$$$ getting all those engineering degrees…
I’ll take a beer or six from you, but only poolside.

Watch this: Alton Brown demonstrates how to hone.
The steel itself can be bought pretty much anywhere. No need to be fancy.
That was extremely helpful. I have one of those and have been doing it wrong (although I had the concept right). So there’s not a better quality one to look for?
Oh crap, Thanksgiving’s in two weeks isn’t it? Time for me to start planning the Type II Diabetic Family (all two of us) Meal. I’m probably going to go with manicotti again for the main dish and a salad for the side but I’m not sure on the desserts. I don’t want to go with the five-cup fruit salad like I did last year–that’s just too predictable.

RECIPE REQUEST ALERT!
Salad recipes that travel well* and desserts that are good for diabetics.**
(*I’ll be on the road about 5 hours with this stuff and I make it at my dad’s place.)
Go!
Alton Brown hones his steel…
excuse me for a bit…
Soup and cornbread good! Hot tub in a few minutes better!
Puggy I forgot earlier but they are aware of pets and sago palms. They have two enormous cats that don’t go out in the front yard or to the patio area. The patio area is weirdly fenced in as is the area where the cats go outside. Their fat butts won’t jump fences so it’s all good.
Seriously… the back yard has two fenced in areas. Odd…
BBBobbio how bout in the pool on a float with the floatin’ cooler full of iced cold beer passin’ by from time to time… now that’s livin’!
Shelli I happen to work for AT&T Mobility. I can answer questions about your cell phone and bill unless you have combined billing (landline and wireless and/or cable) then that’s a whole ‘nuther place, even though I can set ya up with combined billing. Or not. I’ll find out when I start takin’ some calls which, if’n I can ever get that dang final password, might even happen tomorrow.
Spaz some of those skeery lookin’ congealed sallits that look like they, along with fruitcake, would survive a nuclear holocaust might travel well.
It’s hottub time! Later Y’all!
Non dairy cheese
The mac and cheeze is a nutritional yeast base, the cheeze for the crackers is a white bean base. Tasty!
Sorry about your cruddy weather, it’s nasty here, too.
This might happen tonight… will report back when done thinking about Alton Brown.
I’m all-mrfl-blrf-in!
I’ll be in my bunk . . .
Swampus, it’s a deal.
BioRosie, I need to point out that one of the RTs I met yesterday could have been your short brunette sister.
Cookie recipes posted/linked in the blog. Also, I updated my sig last night to include next OP volunteers. We’re covered through 11/24. Anyone else in a volunteering mood?
I was getting worried about doggio, but he posted last night over at Skip’s, so I’m guessing he’s working even more horrible hours than usual.
::Makes plans to move to SE so that she can call swampy about her cell phone.::
Yet another long day at work and now I have to…do more work.
I have more to say, but - sadly - no time. My life promises to return to something more like normal tomorrow.
In the meantime: hugs.
GT
Sooooo sleepy. I spent most of today packing up my desk (my team is being moved to a different floor as of tomorrow) and then got dragged to a work event in the afternoon. Much good food was eaten, much beer was consumed, and much new intelligence on WTF is going on with this $%&*ing Project From Hell has been obtained through careful probing of various colleagues. That kind of excitement tires me out faster than a four-year old after a day at Disneyland, though. snoooooze
Spaz, here’s a recipe that travels very well and actually tends to taste better after it’s had a chance to sit for a while (this makes enough for 4, but you can increase the quantities as needed):
Larry’s Crunch Salad
1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
3 ribs celery, chopped
1 cup radishes, sliced
2 medium-size carrots, peeled and sliced
Dressing:
3 tbsp olive oil
juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp honey
1 tsp dried dill weed
salt and pepper to taste
Combine ingredients in a large salad bowl.
In a small bowl, whisk together the dressing ingredients. Pour over salad; toss until everything is evenly combined and coated with dressing. Devour immediately or at your leisure.
I’m still blah bordering on crabby. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Cookies made and the verdict is…
YUMMY!!!
Sweet, buttery, crisp with a pleasant chewiness. Perfect alongside a cup of tea or cold milk.
Considering drizzling with melted butterscotch chips, but that might be too sweet.
Yum. SouBro- you must stay and post more.
Rosie- step away from the multiquote…
I’ll save that for the family reunion in June.
Dang, GT - I read your sig as “Rebo, all subsequent Mondays.” I ain’t that prolific!
I want to marry you too, SoullBro. I just love the way you talk! All foodie and stuff, with a Southern accent! Mmm.
VBob - I’m jealous of your mad EMT skillz. I think it’s so cool what you do to help folks.
Gotta go - the chili is ready!
See y’all tomorrow…
Funny, I posted the same thing when my name was the last one!
cool, I think. Apparently I have dopplegangers in California and Wisconsin as well.
by the way - that was cool advernture you had (and I got the joke right away)
Damn, Bobbio I can’t believe I missed your EMT story. I sent the link to a friend of mine who’s having a c-section next week. It’s her first and she’s a wreck. I’m hoping the non-goriness of the operation will ease her mind somewhat.
Tupug, way to move on a great deal. You will be so happy. Nothing is worse than a dull knive, especially after you’ve used a sharp one. Report back if you can when you get it.
BTW, there is a proper way to hold a chef’s knife. It’s too hard to explain well, but you sort of grip the part of the blade just past the handle with your thumb and forefinger. Gives you a lot more control over the blade; it won’t wobble about like it would if you rested your forefinger on top of the blade or just gripped the handle. After seeing that A. Brown video, I’ll bet that Mr. Brown has a viddy showing the proper way of holding a knife as well.
Cervaise, what a great viddy. He explains it sooooo well. I’ve never watched him before. We, uh, don’t have a TV.
Mal, I didn’t whip the whites and it was fine. I also used sweetened coconut and did not reduce the amount of sugar. Didn’t affect the awesome-al-ity of it all one bit.
Soapy, I will stick around. I like it here. The main reason I let my subscription lapse back in the day is that I would post and no one would ever respond. It got disheartening after a while. It’s awesome that my posts in here have gotten some nice attention, including two proposals of marriage. That’s a lot of action for a fat guy, you know.
And Dolores, I’m game if you are. Let’s get hitched, we’re just crazy kids anyway. Thanks for your very kind compliments on the way I talk. I’m from California by way of New England, though. I didn’t even realize I had an accent!
