A love for cookbooks: An Epicurean MMP

Oh good. Glad to hear I’m not offending my coworkers! I think everyone here’s pretty good about pretending not to hear non-work conversations. But it is awkward in Cubeville when you hear people talking to their spouses or their kids’ daycare or their doctor.

Ignore the fool Rebo. Except for work related stuff of course. Then you can’t.

I took calls today! I was all nervous at first but got into it. I mean, it’s like I did learn sump’n in trainin’! Tomorrow is more of the same plus I get to play with some QA stuff for a little bit. That’s hands on trainin’ which I likes!

Ok, Ima go put on some jeans and a shirt cause I’m bein’ taken to dindin at Chili’s. YUM!

Later Y’all!

Well, *#&$@! It’s one of the EA team’s last day. Seeing as it’s Thursday and he sent out a goodbye email, I’m assuming he quit. Since we are in a hiring freeze, one of us is going to have to step up to the desk from hell. I foresee…not being able to talk about this very much on a message board. Phooey!

I’ve been making good progress through my to do list: setting up meetings that will be rescheduled, confirming meetings that will be cancelled, formatting documents that will be discarded, setting up schedules for training sessions that will be revised or thrown out and so forth. Bitter? Moi?

It’s been a rainy, dreary, chilly day. We need the rain, but it doesn’t do a lot for one’s mood. Oh well - at least my car is cleaner!

I came home and attacked the chickie carcass I boiled last night. I broke up all the meat and tossed it back into the pot of broth. Then I added seasonings, carrots, green beans, and noodles. As soon as daughter gets her butt home, we’ll be having chickie noodle soup for supper. YUM!

I don’t want to go to work tomorrow, but I don’t want to use vacation either, so I guess I’ll go to work. I signed up for the Commander’s 5K walk/run (I’ll be walking) but there’s a chance of rain tomorrow, in which case, I won’t be participating. Tomorrow is also when I find out what happens to me as a result of a recent reorg. They decided to combine 2 different teams into one, and some folks will be released for other projects. I have no idea whether I stay on the team or go. I don’t want to go, 'cause then I’ll lose my desk by the window!

Glad the week is almost over…

Ok, I was wrong. We had a “Congratulations, you survived the first round of layoffs” meeting this afternoon. We were already shorthanded, so now we’re really shorthanded.

So much for the new car I was planning on buying this weekend. I think I’ll be saving my money instead, since in our department meeting yesterday, our team (just 3 of us) was mentioned as the next place they would be making cuts. (My team is separate from the group (that I’m a part of) that had cuts today, so my headcount could get cut from my team, but my headcount could then conceivably stay with the larger team. After all, the desk from hell is now open. But I’m certainly not going to count on it.)

Considering that my job (and my group) is pure overhead, with no client revenue impact at all, I’m more than a little concerned. My co-worker was so upset by the layoffs that she went home early. She and one of the people who got laid off have worked together for over 15 years and have been friends for that long.

Oh, {{blue}} that’s awful.

Heh. My evil plan is working. (It has no purpose, really, but it’s working!)

[QUOTE=Soul Brother Number Two;10440712…Mal, I didn’t whip the whites and it was fine. I also used sweetened coconut and did not reduce the amount of sugar. Didn’t affect the awesome-al-ity of it all one bit…[/QUOTE]

Cool. I had questions about both these aspects, too. I think I might whip some of these up for work. I paraphrased all of this in a comment on the recipe in the blog so that others with the same question would know.

Glad you survived the layoffs Shadow.

I love reading about the knives. taxi, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen signs at JoAnn Fabrics from time to time advertising scissor and knife sharpening. Also, there used to be a high-end kitchen store in Columbus that had a sharpener come in a few times a year.

I had more to say, but I had an exhausting day and can’t remember what it was. 1 more day of chaos and then I can relax a bit.

Off to lollygag.

I tidied my pantry today - all of a sudden, there’s space in there! I didn’t toss too much out, but I stacked things neatly and organized. Now I can better determine what I need to buy for my two upcoming events. So yay!

Glad tomorrow’s Firday - this has been a tiresome week and I want it to be done…

I was petrified when I got my first calls here, swampy. But I survived, and it sounds like you did too. Yay!

{{{{{blue}}}}}

FCM, I’m off tomorrow! Nyah nyah! 'Course, I then work all weekend, but that’s fine by me. It’s easier to do some stuff I do on my off days, like laundry, on weekdays. Oh if I only had a washer and dryer…sob I still love my house, but I hate hauling laundry around.

Damned deer. Hit another one tonight.

Ooh, just wanted to clear this up - it’s the personal stuff that these co-workers have made comments on sometimes, that I wanted to strangulate them about. And yes, it is hard to ignore the personal convos sometimes (esp. when someone talks louder than they realize … :smack:) – in some cases, that has gone in the opposite direction - I’ve overheard stuff that I wish that I hadn’t!

owie owie owie

I hit the back of my head, and jerked my neck spasm, getting into the car earlier this evening. Now I have a MAJOR headache and by morning, I’m sure there’ll be a bump

Hand-to-hoof combat or is there a wrecked vehicle involved? (And hopefully not yours!)

Ouch, rosie!

Ok, so TVMan and I took a nap and just woke up. Oops. Soon, though, I’ll be going back to bed.

Morning all. Hooray for weekends! Hooray for toddlers sleeping until 7am! Hooray for 4 weeks until vacation!

Boo for rosie’s owies!

Yes, I live under a sunlamp in the winter. But I also live in CA where the sun still shines. The shorter days really affect me though. And the low humidity in the winter is also a factor in how I feel. I hope things go well for you this year. If you think I can help, PM me.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! It’s been a rainy night in Jawja. Plus it’s really warmish outside. Not quite tornado warm, but warmer than it should be now. Weird.

I think the caffiene is startin’ to kick in. I feel the rush.

Yay for Firday! Boo for the ouchie BioRosie and for the deer hit BBBobbio.

Hmmmm… I do believe I hear thunderrumbles in the distance.

Time for more caffiene and brekkies.

Later Y’all!

I’m back! Did you miss me for those long 5 hours that I was gone?

No? That’s ok.

Today is baking day at the shop. We’ll be making pumpkin rolls and pumpkin cakes and whatever else comes along.

Actually, there’s this recipe for buffalo dip that I’ve been dying to try. Possibly I’ll do that, too, and then I’ll let you all know how faaaabulous it was or not.

Obligatory blurf.

In a near replay of the deer vs ambulance collision from July, Bambi came from the left side of the road, ran down the centerline, then veered into the side of the van. There’s a hefty dent between the gas filler and the taillight assembly on the driver’s side that is cosmetically ugly, but has 0 affect on drivability.

I called the insurance company while we were waiting for the sheriff or highway patrol, and got a comedian on the line to start the claim.

“Was the deer insured?”

“Beats the hell out of me. It was a hit-and-run.”

I’ve now hit 4 of the bastiges since moving to Mayberry, and VWife had one hit it’s hoof on the driver’s side mirror jumping across the hood last month. All of this since moving in July '06.

How do you dip a buffalo? Head first?
