My fiance and I are going to Montreal - most likely - on our Honeymoon in October. I’ve noticed quite a few dopers are from Canada and specifically Montreal. We live in Vermont but work in Boston. We like really fun outdoorsy, artsy, environments. We love to go out to eat, pub etc…etc…
Can someone suggest Romantic places to stay, dine, party and places to hike and/or must see sights…
Whats say you? Help Antiquarian do a good job on his Honeymoon…
Lemt me be the first to say: “Congratulations and welcome to Montreal!”
Sadly though, i don’t know much about fun stuff to do here.
All i could suggest is to visit Montreal’s Old Port (beautiful place full of people). They have somewhat preserved the “old” look where the streets where still cobble stones…chariot rides are offered where they take you touring around the place.
Another could be La Ronde, which is an amusement park.
Oh wait… you said october? Then forget the amusement park…and Old Port is very cold and not so full of people during that time…i doubt chariot tours are offered…
sorry
Why don’t you go to the Carrabian’s? (spl??)
You’ll love Montreal. It’s a terribly romantic city.
Carriage tours (they’re called calèches) are offered year round, to the best of my recollection. You may need to wear a few extra layers, according to the weather report. But I remember a number of years where we’ve enjoyed summer weather well until October.
Calèches also go up Mount Royal, which is a lovely park with some gorgeous views.
If you like historic buildings, Montreal has a profusion of glorious churches such as the Notre-Dame Basilica, St. Joseph’s Oratory, Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral, St. Patrick’s Basilica, and Christ Church Cathedral (in that order of impressiveness.)
You mentioned art, and there’s plenty of that; try the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (metro Guy-Concordia) and the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art (metro Place-des-Arts).
You can find plenty of tourism information at http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/ . Click here for a list of attractions that you can search through by theme, for their directions.
There are a million places to eat. A favourite of mine, that’s inexpensive, easy to get to, and lovely with scrumptious food, is Mazurka, a Polish restaurant, 64 Prince-Arthur (a pedestrian street) near De Bullion street (Sherbrooke metro). But the fun part is looking around and tripping over places; plenty of bistros and pubs of the kind you seem to suggest, though I don’t know them so much since that’s not the kind of restaurant I usually go to.
And of course I’ll be available to give you a guided tour of our metro system
