I remember this too, and looked him up on Wiki to see where that career path took him. Apparently it took him right back to Van Halen where he’s currently the lead singer.
He’s not retired and can still put on a show that rocks hard and still scares the hell out of parents.
And bassist John Deacon basically said ‘Fuck it’ and has barely been heard from. He apparently was tired of the business long before the band shut down and following Freddie’s death and the Mercury Tribute concert made a two more appearances with the band and headed out. He says he wishes the others well and that’s that. Didn’t even appear at the RnR Hall of Fame induction.
Or, to semi-quote Roger Taylor
Interviewer: And what’s John up to these days?
Roger: Not much.
He never retired from rock and roll, though – he’ll be doing a solo tour in a couple of weeks. IIRC he also bought the trout farm back in the '70s when he was still fairly young.
Gregg Giuffria, keyboardist for the all-dressed-in-white 70’s band Angel, is now a real estate developer in Las Vegas (scroll to the bottom of the linked page to a pic of him now).
From the same band, Punky Meadows ran a tanning salon in Oakton, VA for a while recently.
Alex James, the bass player for Blur, makes cheese!
Mark Mothersbraugh (spelling?) went from making rock music to making music that appears in television and movies. It’s still music I know, but the kind of music is different than rock that it semi-works.
I like that he’s wearing a personal flotation device, even though it looks really dorky. Not very gangsta there.
Jesus, I felt bad for the other 2 guys on that episode.(I think it was)McGrath who said that his mother appeared on regular Jeopardy while she was pregnant with him
And Brian after being asked a question said “You’d have to ask John about that and he probably doesn’t feel like talking.”
If I remember right, even Probst was astounded at how thoroughly Mark McGrath thrashed the other two. And in a “I can’t believe how much he’s winning by” kind of way but in a “Who knew Mark McGrath was smart” kind of way.
Bobby Sherman was 70’s pop but has had a really worthwhile career as an EMT and training police in first aid and CPR
51 posts and no mention of Skunk Baxter yet?
Also, Terry Chimes of The Clash is another drummer turned chiropractor.
His (her?) wiki page says, “Not to be confused with David Palmer, a former member of Steely Dan.” You know, I understand some musicians have to change their names to avoid confusion with others in their field, but daaaaaaamn!
Similarly, Kevin Rowland of Dexy’s Midnight Runners now designs lingerie…for men. I think that’s about as un-rock’n’roll as you can get.
Paul Stanley of KISS made a huge splash playing the Phantom of the Opera in Canada.
