A Must-Have for Democrats

The Republic of Liberia regularly issues postage stamps, quite valid for use in what passes for a Liberia Post Office, but largely targeted at U.S. and U.K. stamp collectors.
Barb’s always been something of a philatelist, and has been itching to get back into collecting again. So yesterday she picked up a copy of Linn’s Stamp News.

It seems that Liberia was in a hurry to be the first country to issue stamps commemorating the winner of the U.S. 2000 Presidential election. But, the polls being fairly close, they went to press with designs for both Bush and Gore, intending to issue (and sell to collectors) the stamp commemorating the winner and discard the stamp for the loser.

And they sat on these stamps during the Florida recount process and the court battles.

And somehow parts for the two press runs got mixed together.

So you can now, courtesy of the stamp dealers who import Liberian stamps for collectors, own your very own commemorative of the election of

President Al Gore Jr.

Well, as long as postage doesn’t go up, they could use them in 2004…
