A question about the movie Psycho:
Did the psycho kill his mother or did she just die of natural causes? Do we know for sure?

God help me, but last weekend we watched Psycho’s one thru four! (Not that anyone asked me, but “two” is a pretty good 80’s slasher flick. The other 2 sequels are only worth seeing for the sake of saying you’ve seen them.) In the original, the sherrif describes to Vera Miles and John Gavin how the mother had been poisioned by arsenic. No proof that Norman had done it, fair enough. But in Psycho 4 you actually see Norman putting it in the tea. The mother (actually stepmother - see Psycho Two) was played by Olivia Hussey - cast in the part, I imagine, out of pure perversity due to her having played the Virgin Mary in Zefferellis’ Jesus TV miniseries.
I’ve seen the movie, part II as well.
In the book, which I read prior, he does indeed poision her. Because he’s jealous of her lover. Then she is interred in the ground, and he is institutionalized because he goes into shock. Three months or so later, he digs her up again.
I still can’t believe she’s just his adopted mother. I mean I don’t believe it. (Well actually his aunt.) The book didn’t say it, so I don’t hold much faith in it. I just can’t bring myself to.
Sorry am totally obsessed with Psycho…
The whole movie confused me…
You know, since I saw Psycho, I’ve developed an irrational fear of stabbing someone in a shower.
Well, if Mrs. Bates is up there at the motel…
…then who’s that buried out in Greenlawn Cemetery?
