A Mystery That Only Death Can Solve.

Is there life after death? Well most Americans, about 70% or so, believe that they will go to heaven when they die which I guess means they believe in life after death. Many Buddhists believe that there is a new existence after death and approximately 7% of us earthlings believe in reincarnation.

Its a question that will only be answered when we die. I am one of the 7% who believe in reincarnation but obviously I have no proof that there is life after death. In any event, I have no fear of death and look upon it as an adventure that each and every one of us has to face at one time or another…

So I thought I might write something, totally fictitious of course, about what might happen if we can be reincarnated when we die.

Okay I know that this is gonna sound crazy, but remember it just a story, a work of fiction, nothing more … nothing less.

On Leaving & Arriving … My Take on Reincarnation.

The First Ones arrived eons ago and they colonized earth. These are the gods written about by the ancients. This is what they taught about arriving and leaving.

On Leaving: This is what they had to say: If the leaving (death) is expected and peaceful, there will be ample time for you to linger among those gathered about your soon to be abandoned host (body.) This is a time of great sorrow for those who will remain and tears of grief will flow.

Men of science will argue long and hard about when death actually occurs; some saying it is when the brain no longer functions and others when the heart stops beating. Both are correct and both are incorrect. Death only occurs when the life force (soul) leaves its host and it does so when either the heart stops beating permanently, causing the host to begin to decay, or when the brain dies causing the life force to become dysfunctional.

So when either of these two occurs, the life force leaves its host. Now once this happens and the life force is disconnected from an operating brain, all memories of this last life are deleted. So even if your life force were to remain hovering above your inoperative host, it would not be able to recognize it or those gathered about it. In fact such an atmosphere of grief and mourning would be enough to quickly drive the life force from the scene.

On Arriving: All that exists now is a Chain of Worlds or a series of dimensions in which any life force without a host may remain for as long as it chooses. Some refer to these dimensions as links in the Chain of Worlds and it is in the first link that all life forces without a host find themselves for the first time. Here they are met by the Egregori (The Watchers) the life forces who for their own reasons have chosen not to reincarnate. They remain in the first link known as the “dimension without form” and offer advice and assistance to all newcomers when requested. They are often erroneously referred to as angels.

These Egregori approach the lost ones in much the same manner that people did when your life force had a form. Some openly, some shyly and some with smiles and gestures. They will if asked, direct you to any of the many different links in the so called spirit world – seven in all, but only six may be accessed. You may move about freely in the six links without hindrance and if you choose not to reincarnate and do not wish to be one of the Egregori, you may remain there forever, but always without form.

The seventh link or dimension is where the First Ones exist and you will only be able to visit this link if you are invited. Here you may speak with the First Ones on any subject of your choice, only nothing of what you see or hear will be remembered, simply because without a physical brain there can be no memory.

You may ask the Egregori about where you were before you arrived in the Chain of Worlds and you may watch every day of your previous life, if you have the time and the courage. Yet you will remember nothing – it will be like watching the life of a complete stranger. Boring! You can even watch your own funeral service and cremation or burial but again, it will make no sense to you.

You may travel anywhere between the sixth link, the oldest and the first as many times as you wish. However once you leave the “dimension without form,” and return to an inhabited planet, you must reincarnate as there is no turning back and no return to The Chain of Worlds.

So deciding to reincarnate and actually choosing a new host can be rather complicated. While our life force is within its host, in other words while we are alive, we often state: “In my next life I am going to make sure I am reincarnated into a very rich and famous family.” This of course is impossible simply because when you “die” your life force is no longer connected to a physical brain so you have no memory of your previous life.

All life forces, with a very few exception, have a burning desire to reincarnate into a form similar to the last one they occupied. This urges them on to seek out a host, without any thought of wealth or standing simply because they cannot tell the difference between rich or poor.

So when you choose to leave the link without form you may not return – you must either enter a new host and reincarnate or you remain without form for eternity.

                                                              *  *  *  *  *

I’ve seen several of your threads and they all seem to be speculative (and this one completely so.)
We have no idea what happens after death.
There’s no evidence for reincarnation.

If you’re going to write fiction, at least make it interesting!

It’s an interesting premise and could make for a good story. Just make sure everyone knows it fiction (like you did), otherwise some dopes will build a religion around ya:D

Nice story there. I have one issue, in the way of a good natured critique. If the ‘soul’ goes to this place of 6 (7) dimensions w/o form. And the ‘watchers’ are formless how can they smile and make gestures? You might want to rethink that. Other than that, I liked it.

The only reincarnation hope anyone has is that bits of their cellular matter may be ingested by fungus, worms or insects that may be ingested by birds or snakes or some such, and may become part of the living cells of those creatures.

Personally, I hope I wind up as part of a sparrow’s back feathers. Look at the back of a sparrow one day. They’re gorgeous!

Of course we have no idea what happens after death. Didn’t I mention that in the first post?

Of course there’s no evidence for reincarnation. Ditto. Jeeze.

I went to great lengths to stress that it is a simple work of fiction.

To misquote somebody (I think its William Shakespeare) … “interesting is in the eye of the bneholder!.”

I have for some time been considering starting my own religion/church.

Wanna call it the Gyp church. The Guarentee You Paradise Church. You pay me a sum of money every month and I will give you a written guarantee that when you die you will go directly to heaven.

If you don’t go directly to heaven as per my guarantee and you can prove it, I will pay back your money with interest,

Think it might catch on?

Ah Becka! I have that covered. You see when a life force leaves its host it can see and be seen by other life forces and the watchers .

It is only when a life form is within its host, in other words, alive and kicking, that it cannot see what is in the so called “spirit world.”

Hi Cat … I have no doubt that a sparrow’s back feathers are beautiful.

But what could be more beautiful than believing that you could be reborn over and over again?

Take care and have an awesome day!

You started your original post with statistics about people who believe in Heaven, existence after death and reincarnation.

Then you said you believe in reincarnation yourself (despite no evidence.)

Now you contradict that by stating we have no idea what happens after death.

This is all confusing.
If you’d simply said ‘here is a story about what might happen after death’ and then posted your fiction, that would have been clear.

Part of the problem is to do with using language developed in a 3D world and trying to apply it to a much more complex one. You’ll see when you get there, but under no circumstances should you agree to look at particularly intense shades of blue as that is considered to be unspeakably obscene. It’s crazy out there–which is why we seek the relative sensory deprivation of this world.

Egregori =/= Gregori?

When you die, if you weren’t good, you end up spending eternity passing out Chinese Take-out menus on a street corner in Modesto.

(This is all confusing.)

Yeah I often get confused like this too dude/dudess

Yeah I guess that could happen too.

At least its a job,

Reincarnation is an incoherent idea. What does it mean. Since I have no memory of past lives, it follows that even if I were somehow reincarnated–whatever it means–my current consciousness would disappear and that is what death means to me, have my current consciousness disappear.

Go back and read the first post in the thread.

I did. Is this a story outline, or something you believe to be true?

You misspelled “beignet”, but you are absolutely right! When holding a beignet, I am always interested.

Okay, first of all, I know that there’s no life after death. There’s no mystery in that.
But regarding your fiction, I would like to point out that it’s basically an error to call that ‘soul’ thing that you emit upon death “you”. It has none of your properties, physical, mental, emotional. It’s as much you as the last breath that escapes your lungs - it was inside you, but it’s not you in any meaningful way. In fact since you said it has no memories it’s not anybody in any meaningful way - there’s no “there” there.

Though you do contradict yourself a bit regarding that - it appears that they have some tattered shreds of memory sort of clinging to them after all, to fuel the seemingly sourceless “burning desire” to reincarnate into some sort of entity that is somehow similar to the one they don’t remember or resemble but which spawned them.

Would it be reasonable to conclude that this formless brainless soul thing, after possessing a person or desk lamp or whatever, becomes dormant again, its burning desire satisfied? Just squatting comfortably in its fleshy home until it gets evicted again, and the cycle begins anew? What does it experience while in there? Does it have any control? Is it like playing a video game - diverting while it lasts, but ultimately a waste of time since it’s all forgotten anyway? Or alternatively like watching TV, if they don’t have control? Really mindless TV that makes so little impact that you don’t remember it after you’re done?
On an unrelated note, you repeatedly mention these six other realms that souls hang out in between scratching the itch to waste their time stinking up a host body, but you don’t really say much about them. Are they different from each other? Why six? And who cares about any of that, since the souls wandering around through them have no memory and thus can retain nothing about anything and are probably incoherently freaking out about their perpetually unknown environs all the time?

And a further unrelated note, who are the characters your story is about? It can’t be these supposed souls - they’re nobody, and have no retention of personalities. The Egregori who manage this perpetually pointless cycle?
