A new low in films: Action Point

The preview clip they show at bars is a condensed version of this YouTube video, which actually implies there is a script and a plot of some sort:

But what it is, is a movie made by stringing a bunch of, "Hey, watch this" videos together. Any of you could make this movie in a couple of hours with Windows Movie Maker.

Sigh. The real place (Action Park in Vernon, NJ) has such an amazing history of insanity. I went there every summer as a kid and it’s a miracle I’m still alive. I was disappointed when I heard they were making such a moronic movie loosely inspired by it. There are some really great (and hilariously funny) stories that could have been used by competent filmmakers.

I highly recommend Traumatic License: An Oral History of Action Park. It’s a great read.

And yes, everything you have ever heard about this place is 100% true. Even the vertical-loop waterslide.

The trailer I’ve seen for it looks funny. I’ll see it.

Can’t watch the video at the moment–is it a bunch of strung-together clips of people doing parkour?

I didn’t realize it was a documentary! The Wiki page on it is crazy. It lists all the problems, typical injuries and deaths over the years.

I loved Action Park. I lost skin on the Alpine Slide and almost drowned in the wave pool. One very vivid memory I have was watching people falling into the swamp waters of NJ trying to enter a speed boat and disappear in the muck and park employees sticking poles in spot yelling, “Grab it!” So much fun.

Now I’m wondering about this movie. What’s the connection to the amusement park?

It’s a fictional comedy inspired by the park.

I’m pretty sure my neck problems can be traced back to whiplash I got at Traction Park.
Another good article about the park.

Any time I meet someone who claims to have patronized Action Park, my response is always “show me your scars.”

It’s Johnny Knoxville. As in “Jackass” Johnny Knoxville. Whose entire schtick is doing stupid dangerous stunts on camera. That really should define the movie for everyone.
