I recommend Fallout: New Vegas if you want a SF-ish RPG. The RPG elements are better than in FO4, and the gameplay is better than FO3. Also since it’s an older game the system requirements are nothing now. I agree that skyrim is also a good choice for fairly cheap and a ton of content with all of the DLC and mods.
I’m not sure why someone is saying the X-com reboot is not ‘entry level’ friendly, the game has a very accessible UI and if you’re not trying to play the ultra-hard levels on Ironman is pretty forgiving (if you are trying to play the highest levels with no save-and-load, you’re not playing 'entry level). The old X-com was very fiddly and really required some mods to not be a PITA, but people are recommending the modern one.
It’s also worth pointing out that if you last played games in the 1990’s, pretty much all games these days are “entry level.” The complexity of the game worlds has grown, but we’ve learned a lot about how to build user interfaces and game mechanics to interact with them. There are a few games out there that still have the punishing difficulties and/or painful control mechanisms of the early years of video games, but they’re mainly for a niche audience. For the most part games are easier, have much more gentle introductions, and are more immersive now.
