This is a great thread and I’ve laughed at all the terrific postings here.

Occassionally I may have stated that the performance of the SDMB’s server has been something less than stellar.

However, the upgrade is a quantum technological leap.

It will be a big machine, 8000 cubic miles of klystron relays, enough power for a whole population of creative geniuses–operated by remote control - operated by the electromagnetic impulses of individual brains. In return, that machine will instantaneously project solid matter to any point on the planet. In any shape or color they might imagine. For any purpose.

Wow that almost makes it worthwhile to renew my membership for another year.

There is one potential problem with the new server though. Just a small technical glitch. Just one small software problem

But heck, it’s just a small disadvantage don’t you think?

The problem is that this is the power supply.
Even though it is not a perfect solution, it appears that the Reader has attracted the attention of another large company that thinks that hamster power is the wave of the future.

The problem is, that it was so long ago that the upgrade involved one of these. And, as discussed here, the art has progressed a little.

I don’t know why I hadn’t opened this thread before. The server is up to the latest multiprocessor technology.
