The defense would go as follows
- While simple research might show that my claims were false, I didn’t see any of that evidence before I made my claims.
- Therefore I didn’t have any reason to not believe what I was saying.
- Based on the case law of Costanza Vs Seinfeld (1995) “It’s not a lie if you believe it”
- So I didn’t lie.
- If I didn’t lie I must have told the truth.
- Truth is an absolute defense for defamation
- Therefore the case should be dismissed.
