I just wanted to say that this is the first time I’ve ever noticed that lightingtool isn’t actually lightningtool.
Well, I take that back. The Wolf Trap one does have a handy place to dock a boat, so I’ll take that one.
Now I just need a boat.
I think making a dock is fairly easy - you can get floating docks and I don’t think it’d be too hard to install…
If only those lighthouses weren’t in Virginny. Le sigh. Iffen they were in Orygun, Wifey would let me buy one. She likes 'em too. Unfortunately, so does everybody else apparently.
If FCD bought one, a lots of us would come visit you, FCM, really.
Ashes[sup]2[/sup], you musta gone to the real estate website. Sorry about that.
Ummm…Biscuits and gravey.
I’m glad I know what to ask for next time I head to the States.
This is my 2999th post.
fcm, those lighthouses look really cool but kinda scary at the same time. I wonder what they’ll be like in a couple days with Opelia on the scene.
Yeah, lighthouses in Virginia. Only most of them aren’t lighthouses as much as they are oversized bouys. I drive past one of those on sale a couple of times a month.
And for the exciting thing that happened at work today - the FedEx driver took a bumper off one of the cars in our parking lot. I’m going out to watch.
I told my coworker buddy Dave about them and he decided that we and he need to form a partnership, buy one, renovate it, and rent it out as a vacation site. Yeah, no liability issues there, huh?? I think the world of Dave, but I’m now also thinking he’s weird.
wait wait wait! You have access to KIDS? Heck just get *them * to do it. You know they already know more than your obsolete Spanish-speaking IT guy don’t you? And as an extra - if they do happen to make things worse then the *next * time you try to contact the IT guy he’s gonna come a-runnin’ rather than having to sort out THAT mess again
Work was weird today. We have three departments within our overall department and we all just rotate round. It’s a smart idea cos staff are less bored and our employers have a larger pool of experienced people to slot in wherever. A couple of days ago an email came round asking for ‘expressions of interest’ in being seconded to department 3 for six months. Well, i’ve been in departments 1 and 2 so i figured why not. Today i got an invite to a formal interview  Apparently they have been advertising this job throughout our entire company and externally too. And they’ve had to advertise twice to get enough interest but all we got was a casual email.
I’m seriously thinking about backing out now - i mean, i don’t even have a job description so i’ve no idea what i would say at this interview. I was expecting more of an informal chat about the job role and whether me and a superviser thought i could do it or not (like normally happens).
Could someone explain to me what biscuits are? I don’t think i have the same thing in mind as most of you seem to have…
Oh that’s right, what you call biscuits we call cookies. (Now there’s an odd word).
American biscuits are kinda like round scones, only lighter. Here’s a recipe with a picture.
FCM, I like the way Dave thinks.
Oh well, once again i am disappointed by American cuisine
How come you guys can imply that a food is tasty and delicious but it turns out to be normal (biscuits)* or weird and not as cruncy as one would have expected (grits)?
*ok admittedly those biscuits look tasty
oops
cruncHy :smack:
OK, window guy #1 just left for the second and last time.
$10K!!! His windows were nice but not that nice! So we’re going to try one more company - let’s see what I can find in the yellow pages…
I want a lighthouse but not to live in, just for pretty. All those stairs! Much better to stand outside and admire it. Unless I could hire somebody to carry me up and down. Or install an elevator. Oooh, maybe a trebuchet (that doesn’t look right, but then it’s probably a french word and goodness knows I can’t spell diddly in french) could be set up to sort of fling me up to the top. Gonna need lots of pillows for that.
Lissla, your doughnut recipe makes me feel not so bad anymore. I used to take apple fritters and melt butter on them in the microwave. Then add a little cream cheese. Okay, a bunch of cream cheese. But I don’t do that anymore because I want to live to see my retirement and not have to wear a dress the size of a volkswagon, either.
I only let my biscuits go free at home and never with any gravy like **Bumba ** does. In fact, boys don’t even really have biscuits. Just whose biscuits are you messing about with, Bumba? And I liked your website 'cause it’s pretty around where you live and I live in a place usually used to substitute for Iraq in the movies.
Wow…didn’t know there was so much interest in Pillow Talk (the movie, sillies!). taxi, yes, the Doris Day and Rock Hudson one (with Tony Randall too). Ashes, the book wasn’t Pillow Talk, it was The Thing about Jane Spring, which has a very Doris-Day-centric plot. Lots and lots of the Doris Day references went back to Pillow Talk, so I thought I should actually see the movie.
Long day at work. Didn’t do a single thing I was supposed to. Let me re-phrase that. Everything I did was something I was supposed to do, but I hadn’t planned to deal with it today.
So, does it bother anyone else to see a message from your firewall saying “Someone is scanning your computer?” My little firewall icon got all glowy and I wondered why. I clicked on it and that’s the message it gave me. It was my ISP. I just let it go out to get updates for the support utility, but I’ve never noticed it do that before…
I’ve decided that dinner is going to be from Panera, since I don’t want a big dinner, and everything else nearby sounds like too much. Also, Panera is conveniently located just minutes from my front door. Like maybe 2 minutes. Max. On foot even.
Is it the weekend yet?

Hi everyone.
Whoohoo! Another Brit in the MMP. You need to search a couple of MMP’s ago for my introduction to ‘country gravy’ to get my reaction to American Cuisine
OK cna someone tell me please why when I almost have my car paid off (2 more months or 4 more payments) I go out and buy an brand spanking <snerk> new SUV?
Apparently I am out of my tiny mind which would also explain why I have had the attention span of a hyperactive 2 year old today. Oh look shiny…
Biscuits are light and fluffy and buttery, and very, very yummy. I love good biscuits. They’re heavenly with some good sausage gravy (that’s white gravy, not the brown stuff). Not so good with bad gravy. Stay away from the bad gravy. I’ve never had poutine, so I make up for it by eating lots of biscuits. Too bad we can’t do a food swap–that would be fun!
No, ems, the shiny is over there ------->
You’re welcome.
Forgot a couple of items, of course, thanks for the laptop info, Ellen. I’ll definitely look at Dell if I go with something Windowsy; the only down side I can think of is that my work laptop is a Dell and I’m afraid my home one will make me think of work as well… (I am a gifted rhymer.)
Also, thank you for <snerk>ing, Rue.
I’ve decided that living in a lighthouse might be nice. Far far away from everyone. Well, except for restaurants.
I do not discuss my biscuits with anyone.

Apropos of nothing: Who was it who collected Monopoly stuff? I’m embarassed to say I’vr forgotten.
No clue. We’re supposed to remember things? I don’t have a long enough attention span to remember things.
I think I’ll be emailing you an order next week, when I get paid. I need all my excess cash this week to buy a food processor.
Incidentally, we don’t have thousands of varities of frozen biscuits up here in Canada, and no one eats sausage gravy. We just drown everything in maple syrup or regular gravy. It’s cold here (yeah, right) and we need calories. Anyone ever had tarte au sucre? Sugar, cream, and butter. Or butter tarts, which may be one of the most perfect non-chocolate desserts ever? Yummy.
