The point was, those are her favorite shows…
Oh, a morning update: she’s showing signs of another lupus flare this morning, so it’s probably lupus induced pleurisy, as hinted last night.
Ouch. Give her my sympathy and wishes for a speedy recovery.
Remember the concert, taxi? Sheesh. I didn’t get home till late, and then Mr. Lissar and I stayed up a bit because he’ll be gone (more or less) all weekend. Won’t see him again until Monday at 1 a.m.
The concert was good. I’m not an indie rock kind of girl- no one dances, they just stand around looking retro and bobbing their heads- but the music was good, and Quasi-Daughter ran around being a fangirl and getting all of the band to autography her free cd. It was cute. And there was a very large work contingent of four actual employees plus associated SOs and friends. I brought Dishwashing Husband and Driving Husband. Dishwashing Husband was my date.
Anyway, it was good, and I feel less crappy today. I’ve got to do a little shopping before work, and then maybe Attacks Husband will be up for a walk or something tonight. That would be nice.
We got up fairly early because the cable guy had to come out and activate a different cable jack and swap out our digital cable box for a HDTV cable box. We bought a HDTV and just had to have the high def channels right?
Anyway, our appointment time was anywhere from 8:00 to 12:00 and he showed up at 8:00 right on the nose. That was good.
After the cable guy left I finished my paper and the crosswords and took a shower. Now I need to do some cleaning and head out to the store for the ingredients for tonight’s dinner. I also need to go to the video store and return our rentals. While I’m there, maybe I’ll see if there any good movies to rent.
Last night we went out with friends to a cajun restaurant to celebrate Mr. Taters birthday. We had a nice time and there was live music to boot. The food was good, if not a bit too spicy. I had andoullie and chicken jambalaya with some ettouffee on the side. They got a little carried away with the jalapenos in the rice. I like a little spice, but not so much it hurts my stomach.
Bobbio, I’m sorry to hear of Vunderwife’s travails. I hope she gets to feeling better soon.
cd, men just have to shave their faces, that’s nothing. Imagine having to shave your legs, all the way up.
Taters, don’t forget the armpit shaving, too. Pits are hard to shave. It’s much easier now that I have the razor with the built-in shaving cream thingy, though.
Note to self: After you bake a cake, don’t touch the sides of the hot bundt cake pan. Owie! My fingertips are a little singed.
I’m having a very lazy Saturday. I should be doing stuff, but I just feel like being lazy. I think I’ll continue to be lazy tomorrow, too. Because tomorrow’s Sunday, and Sunday is just a lazy day. My mom thinks Sunday should be a “day of rest,” so she’s not really impressed when I talk to her on Sundays and I’m working on something. So I’m going to take my mom’s advice (because moms are wise), and not do anything too strenuous tomorrow. I’m helping my brother make a little photo album for our grandma, so maybe I’ll work on that this afternoon. I have lots of cool paper, I just need to stick it all together. I think this calls for a trip to the art store. I love our local art store–they know everything! I’d live there if I could.
Oh Bob, it sounds like she has a tough row to hoe. I’m sending her good thoughts.
gardentraveler, I was up at 4:45 this morning so I could go run a half marathon with a bunch of Marines. I can’t decide if it’s the early hour of rising, or the run itself, but I NEED A NAP.
And so I’m gonna.
I need a nap too, but it’s too late in the day - if I nap, I won’t fall asleep tonight. Plus the cat is licking my left ankle - wouldn’t want to disturb his fun…
We just finished stacking a cord and a half, more or less, of firewood. Apparently, the previous owners bought a truckload of sorta-split firewood, had it dumped down the hill from the house, covered it with a tarp, and left it. We burned a little last winter, but it was such a hassle going down the hill with the wagon, loading some up, bringing it by the house and stacking it, then taking what we needed into the house. We had to *really really * want a fire.
So this morning we bought some pressure treated lumber and built a half-cord rack and put it next to the back door. Then we hitched the cart to the riding mower and hauled up enough wood to fill the rack. At that point, I took a break, but I hated that there was still a pile of firewood and an ugly blue tarp down the hill. I went back outside and decided to stack the remaining wood between several conveniently situated trees. My sweetie came out and helped, and we got it all stacked neat and tidy. Then we rolled up the tarp and put it on the trailer for the dump.
Near the old wood pile, there was another tarp covering 2 wooden rocking chairs, sans cushions. They are in good shape, in need of cleaning and paint, and cushions, so we put them in the shed till we can prettify them. We folded their tarp for use on the firewood after it has a chance to dry out. It’s dark green, so it won’t look as startling as the old blue one did.
And we’ve decided to sell our gazebo. It’s just a screened octagon with a water-repellent fabric roof. It has a table in it, and 4 chairs, and a gas grill. I figure I should be able to get $75 for the lot. In fact, as soon as I post this, I’m going to post the ad for it. Slowly but surely, we’re clearing away all traces of the Easts.
Tomorrow, I’m helping out in ManLand, and I may work in my yard a little. Oh yeah, and laundry. No day of rest for me, tho these chores are rather invigorating.
And I had to chase the cat away - his tongue is far too rough for my delicate, sylph-like ankles… No really!
Hi all! Well, not so many all, as it’s a Saturday, and ya’ll are out having fun I hope.
As for me, I was in class all this past week, so that’s why I wasn’t here. I was up an hour earlier than usual so I could get some work done before class, did class, and then did another hour of work after class, so the days were slightly longer, and I was just a little bit more tired. I got 19 out of 20 on the test at the end of the class, though, so that was good.
I didn’t do much today - just hung out and read. I’m on my third book of the day, and I enjoyed all three in their different ways. The first two were sort of dark, but not too depressing, and the third is definitely lighter but also enjoyable.
I have tortilla dough resting on the counter, and a spicy cucumber salad in the fridge, so dinner is looking good.
I’m going to go take a bath now - after a long day’s reading, I need the tension relief!
(And Bobbio , I definitely hope that you have/had a better day today)
Susan
Susan’s back! Yay!
I have, of course, done more items from the “wanna” list than the “gotta” list. But the living room is starting to look a little more civilized, since I’ve slowly cleared out stuff while watching a movie (Sahara - meh…). I’ve now moved on to Pride and Prejudice, which makes good background noise for cleaning up since I’ve seen it about eleventy-thousand times.
Had a lovely nap earlier (started by reading, but got really sleepy, so I said “what the heck!” and slept for about an hour). I’m hoping to be able to get to bed at a normal-ish hour anyway.
I’d want a nap too, if I’d run a 1/2 marathon, scout. My brother is a distance runner, so I know more than my share about marathons, but I’ve never been able to get inspired enough to run more than a few blocks at a time. In the meantime, my knees would definitely protest if I tried anything longer than that. How’d the 1/2 marathon go, by the way? (Were you running for fun or for speed?)

For some unknowable reason, I awoke about 3:30 this morning. Further, the ceiling fan was making a noise - a very subtle noise, but enough to cause me to listen and not be able to fall back to sleep. My tossing and turning was disturbing my sweetie, so I grabbed my pillow and a spare sheet from the linen closet and moved to the family room couch. I turned the TV on - you know, there’s not much to choose from at that hour of the morning. Eventually I dozed, then woke again near sunrise.
So, the dog has been out, the critters have been fed, and I’ve read my online comics. My sweetie is still sleeping. I have no idea if the fan is still making noises. But I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a long, tired day.
Don’t you HATE it when fans start making noises? Mine periodically develop a hum that you can hardly hear, but drives me bonkers as soon as I notice it. I have to turn them off for a while and then hope the noise goes away.
I’m up and about to finish collecting an exciting package for my white elephant victim.
Then I need to get to church and work in the garden for a few…
After which it’s back to the THINGS I NEED TO DO THIS WEEKEND list…

Yay! Driving Husband is taking me to get my food processor! I’m excited!
Sorry about the crappy sleep, fcm. Next time I promise not to play cymbals right next to your head.
Poor Mr. Lissar went to bed last night (2:30 a.m.) after a twelve hour shift, rolled out of bed this morning (10), and flung himself out the door for another twelve hours of fun work.
Tomorrow the last day of this rotation, thank goodness. Two days off to sleep.
I slept in until 8:00 a.m this morning, but I was up until nearly 2:00 a.m last night. A girl needs her beauty sleep, you know what I mean? We had friends over for dinner and then we played Texas Hold 'Em. We just played with chips, not real money, but I won, and won big!
Today we’re going to the MIL’s for dinner. She’s making a nice roast, mashed 'taters, and gravy in honor of **Mr. Tater’s ** birthday.
Bobbio, I hope Vunderwife is doing better today.
FCM, I became tired just from reading about your chores yesterday. I would have taken a nap.
Lissla, I have a food processor, but I can’t remember the last time I used it. Oh, wait, I think the last time I used it was when I made zucchinni bread. That was a very, very long time ago. The food processor now sits in one of my cupboards along with my breadmaker, rice cooker, blender, smoothie maker, ice cream maker, crockpot, and a couple of other things I can’t remember. Yep, I don’t use those other things too much either. I’m sure I’ll use them sometime, I just don’t know when.
I loved my food processor until I broke it doing something stupid. I make cake batter, bread dough, and hummus in it. I shred cheese, slice potatoes for scalloping, and make peanut butter and almond flour. I love my food processor. I was lost without it.
I don’t have a lot of space for kitchen gadgets- I only have the cuisinart, a hand blender, and a crockpot. My rice cooker just broke, but it was free, so no huge loss. I use the crockpot once a week, the cuisinart once a fortnight (I love that word), and the hand blender occasionally, usually to puree soups and stuff.
I’m thinking seriously about an indoor grillfor grilling veggies and stuff, but I’m not sure. Space is at a premium. Anyone have one?
Well, I frittered away much of the day just between church and brunch. Only spent about 45 minutes gardening, but got a whole spirea pruned. There are about 4 more where that one came from. Brunch took up 2 hours or so. (What you get when you know chatty people…) Got home at almost 2 o’clock.
I’ve now started the laundry and have done one serious round of junk pick-up, since I’m sure that will remind me of items that could go in my white elephant box. Also, I need to get some pictures printed so that I can send a box to my mom at the same time I send the white elephant…
Of course, it hasn’t helped that my cable went out for almost an hour. And then went on again. And then off. Or maybe it has, since I wasn’t able to wander off to surf.

I spent much of the day in ManLand - aka, the basement. Along with doing 2 loads of laundry, I helped my husband move his workbench and table saw, move 2 cabinets, run some wire so that we could relocate the air compressor, and ShopVac’d a bunch of sawdust. I thought about doing some gardening, but I’ll save that fun for later in the week.
I need to get my White Elephant box packed - if I don’t get it right out in the mail, I’m apt to forget. Maybe after dinner.
Other than that, it’s mostly a lazy day.
Ilike the almond M&Ms but most certainly can do without the peanutbutter ones - that’s what Reese’s are for!
Chocolate taffy?
I vaguely remember making Tootsie Rolls in preschool. They probably weren’t actually Tootside Rolls (like the same recipe), but they were warm and delicious.
I love Tootsie Rolls. I wish I had one right now - one of the big square ones. Those are awesome. Second best are the long thinner ones.
It’s a zombie (albeit a young one)! Kill it! (or just make fun of it) Hehehe.
